Mission: To transform the juvenile justice system into one that builds on the strengths of young people, families and communities to ensure children are given the greatest opportunities to grow and thrive.
Programs: Jjpl works to build the capacity of louisiana's juvenile public defenders by providing support, consultation and training, as well as pushing for system-wide reform and increased resources for juvenile public defenders. Jjpl challenges the way the state handles youth particularly those confined in juvenile prisons by advocating the state to invest in more and better alternatives to incarceration such as community-based alternative programs that will keep children connected to their families and loved ones while providing individualized treatment and holding them appropriately accountable for their actions.
