grant : childrens museum sonoma countyprovided financial support for the childrens museum of sonoma county for the storybook cottage play area. The storybook cottage is designed to support children in their formative years (2. 5 and under) to make sure they get off to a good start. The child-sized cottage will be full of colorful tactile experiences that encourage the development of early childhood skills including inquisitiveness, creativity, and verbal and non-verbal communication. Children and their caregivers are invited to engage in hands-on exploration in this remarkable environment rich in materials and textures that inspire curiosity and imagination. Snuggle with a puppet and a good book or have a tea party with friends in the little red riding hood theme storybook cottage. To date hundreds of children have been served since the museum opened last fall. The exempt purpose was served as we are an active and diverse group of trained volunteers who are committed to positively impact the lives of children and families.
ceres project jlns provided volunteers to support the ceres project. Ceres supports primarily low-income people struggling because of a serious health challenge with free and home-delivered nourishing organic and locally produced meals, nutrition education and the caring support of the community. All the meals ceres provides are prepared by teens between the ages of 14 and 19 who volunteer in their acre food production garden and three commercial kitchen sites in marin and sonoma counties. Ceres expert mentors give teens the opportunity to learn to cook and eat for health, gain the skills to be successful at school and work, develop leadership skills, become change-makers in their community, and discover the joy of giving back. The average teen works at ceres for a year and many for much longer. Two teens serve as voting members on our board of directors and all of our teens are authentically engaged in planning and decision making throughout our organization.
