The institute conducts research that supports joint venture's programmatic areas relating to enhancing silicon valley's economy and quality of life. It also manages a variety of regional resources for the public benefit, and is available for contract research opportunities.

Released by joint venture and silicon valley community foundation every february, the indicators measure the strength of our economy and the health of our community - highlighting challenges and providing an analytical foundation for leadership and decision making.
climate prosperity:joint venture is dedicated to promoting climate-friendly activities that help our local economy and improve quality of life in silicon valley. Joint venture's climate initiatives consist of three distinct programs: the public sector climate task force, the climate prosperity council, and sustainable buildings. Wireless communication initiative:joint venture's wireless communication initiative is a collaboration between the wireless industry, local governments, businesses and residents working to improve the wireless and broadband infrastructure in silicon valley to have faster networks and eliminate dead spots. The consortium builds on existing relationships with local governments to lead a coordinated public-private sector effort and mounts a highly strategic campaign to transform silicon valley's wireless data and communications infrastructure. Smart region:joint venture's smart region initiative is focused on education, collaboration, and expertise sharing to drive deployment of regional smart city systems in the silicon valley. Community broadband initiative:joint venture's community broadband initiative (cbi) is a coalition between academia, residents, local governments, businesses, and the communications industry working together to improve affordable gigabit broadband infrastructure in under-served silicon valley neighborhoods. Cbi will pioneer a new partnership-driven model for financing, installing, and operating open source broadband networks and services. Grand boulevard:the grand boulevard initiative is an historic collaboration of more than 30 different cities, agencies and other organizations working together to transform the el camino real corridor into a people friendly place and realize the full potential of one of our region's major thoroughfares. Mobility:joint venture is actively involved in addressing the transportation challenges facing our region by creating partnerships among communities to work on mobility issues across multiple jurisdictions. Projects include bike share programs, walkability options, improved transit, traffic signal coordination and other "smart" approaches to travel on the major arterials, across all modes. Resilience:in september of 2015, joint venture extended the mission of our environmental work to include adaptation and resilience. As we prepare for climate change and natural and man-made risks to our region, we will move forward with our members and partners on strategies to mitigate, prepare for, and address those risks. The resilience portfolio encompasses the public sector climate task force, adaptation/slr initiative, and work with the us geological survey and local government partners on hazard and emergency preparedness and recovery. Silicon valley talent partnership:joint venture's silicon valley talent partnership is leveraging the private sector's world-class talent and expertise to tackle civic issues in our region. Silicon valley food rescue: helping the hungry in our community:the joint venture silicon valley food rescue initiative is working to alleviate hunger in the region by eliminating food waste and distributing surplus food to those in need.
