Mission: Jewish family service of cincinnati strengthens lives and our community by providing professional social services to individuals and families in times of need.
Programs: Aging and caregiver services offers a wide range of programs and services to improve the quality of life of individuals age 60+. In 2014, 998 seniors (unduplicated count) received services. -case management: our goal is to provide older adults the opportunity to pursue a life of optimum independence and satisfaction, while living in their desired environment, which is usually their own home. Case management is a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the services required to meet the client's health and human service needs. -carelinktm: jewish family service geriatric care managers, your experts in agingtm, collaborate with each client and family to assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate services required to meet the client's health and human services needs so they thrive and live well. -center for holocaust survivors: holocaust survivors receive case management; home visits; restitution assistance; counseling and referral; social therapeutic activities; free hearing tests; and safety/adaptive equipment. -caregiver coaching: clients are guided through making decisions and solving problems related to their caregiving roles. This frequently involves assisting an adult child who is attempting to manage formal and informal caregiving from afar--either for a parent in a distant city, or a distant adult child for a parent living in cincinnati. -independent living assistance: jewish family service is approved by the state of ohio to provide medicare counseling and information, and is one of only two agencies contracted by the council on aging of southwestern ohio to provide assistance with banking, bill paying, insurance claims, assistance in obtaining benefits, and the like. -options cincinnati: this program allows senior adults to age in place by providing case management, wellness programs, and social events to people in their own home environments. It currently is active in two apartment communities.
vital services offers safety net services for people facing challenges. In all, 1,018 individuals (unduplicated count) were assisted. -emergency intervention and case management: to prevent homelessness, hunger, and deprivation, jewish family service distributes third party payments for rent, mortgage, utilities, medical care, transportation, and other necessities. Jfs case managers work closely with clients to ensure they receive all public benefits and assistance for which they qualify. -heldman family food pantry: a five-day emergency supply of food supplements limited budgets. This includes meat, fresh vegetables, pantry staples, household cleaning, and personal care items. Our pantry promotes client choice, which allows the selection of items to fit individual needs. It is the only food pantry in the region that includes a full array of kosher foods and meat. -shelter diversion: jewish family service helps clients prevent homelessness by offering them case management and emergency financial assistance toward obtaining and maintaining stable housing. Jewish family service is one of only a few emergency assistance providers selected for this federally funded homelessness prevention program. -mental health case management: individuals with chronic mental illness are engaged in ongoing case management services with the goal of helping this highly vulnerable population maintain stability and security. -peer-based socialization activities: recognizing that socialization and spiritual needs are important to achieving wellness, jewish family service offers this best-practice program to address the unique needs of people experiencing hunger, poverty and mental illness who desire to be served within a jewish cultural setting. -information and referral: jewish family service case managers refer clients to community resources and provide them with up-to-date information to meet their needs.
adoption connection is a full service, licensed adoption agency facilitating both domestic and international adoptions. 606 people (unduplicated count) were served in 2014. -adoptive placements: the adoptive triad--birth parents, adoptive family, and the child--relies on adoption connection for a full range of adoption services, including facilitation and mediation of open relationships between birth and adoptive families.
education & mentoring (formerly family life education) addresses issues and problems people confront at various stages of life, combining both direct services and learning opportunities that result in stronger individuals and families. 1,440 people (unduplicated count) benefited. -alan r. Mack speaker series: jewish family service presents speakers with expertise in a variety of relevant and provocative topics affecting our daily lives. -healthy relationships in the jewish community: jewish family service provides resources and prevention education programs to raise awareness of domestic violence, sexual abuse, teen dating violence, bullying, and child abuse. -mental health education: jewish family service staff, local guest presenters, and national speakers educate professionals on mental health issues. -parenting education: jewish family service collaborates with pj library and other jewish community organizations to bring parenting programs and engagement opportunities to families with young children in the jewish community. -english for speakers of other languages: jewish family service provides english, civics and citizenship classes for adult students who have immigrated to cincinnati. -bigs & littles: this youth mentoring program carefully matches selected "bigs" to "littles" and provides support to the bigs, parents/guardians, and youth to help guide the littles toward a successful future.
