Mission: Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative of New Orleans is a neighborhood-based nonprofit homebuilder that provides families with healthy and energy-efficient affordable housing opportunities. We partner with neighborhood residents, organizations and businesses to create and maintain a stable and thriving community.
Results: Homeownership offers a sense of place and a blanket of unparalleled financial security. It serves us all with the dignity of comfort and provides us with a true sense of safety. Stepping back, over the last decade Jericho Road has worked to create 42 single-family homes, established community greenspaces, and mobilize communities from within. Jericho Road has also co-developed The Muses, a mixed-income market-rate apartment complex with over 200 units. Jericho Road is proud to share its success stories in building stable neighborhoods and promoting access to affordable housing. Evelyn Carlton, who left homeless and jobless after serving our country, can serve as a testament to Jericho Road’s commitment to its mission. Evelyn became the recipient of an investment made by Jericho Road and it was her personal story which serves as a voice to the tangible effect Jericho Road has. That voice serves as a powerful advocate for itself and the issues important to Central City. The collaboration between Jericho Road and its partners, as well as residents, has produced many other notable accomplishments: • Resident-led and organized donation of more than 11,000 hours of volunteer work • The construction and maintenance of community green spaces like the Saratoga Street Fruit Tree Orchard • The maintenance and control of more than 25 vacant, blighted properties • The organization of Homebuyer Club meetings and post-purchase workshops • The implementation of two healthy living initiatives, encouraging affordable meal preparation
