The James Hardy Patterson Foundation is a non-profit organization that is seeing to promote, educate and preserve African America's classical music... Jazz. I volunteer because I believe in the founder, Dr. James H. Patterson's ideals.
The mission of the foundation :
The Foundation is established to preserve, promote, educate, (at all levels), disseminate information about Afrikan American history/culture as an international democratic force (music, movement-dance), theatre and visual arts.
This encompasses: Afrikan traditional music; swing movement (dance/tap), Afrikan American Folk-Blues, spirituals, traditional gospel ragtime, stride piano, boogie woogie {Barrel House}, black string band music, grio (rap-traditonal that originated in Africa), visual, ie., paintings, sculptures, theatre, etc.
"We must continue diligently in the quest for Afrikan cultural healings by creating an environment of Afrikan traditional culture in a Cultural Arts Center. A culture is a horrible possession to lose." James Hardy Patterson, Founder & CEO
