Mission: Iss-usa mobilizes a domestic and international network of legal and social work professionals to efficiently connect vulnerable children, adults and families who are separated by international borders to the services and support they need.
Programs: In order to prevent borders from becoming barriers to children being raised in families, iss-usa provides home studies (for kinship placement or adoption), searches for family members, obtains documents, provides coordinated assistance when children are returned to families in countries outside the us, to benefit children, typically in the us foster care system, who may have family and placement options outside the u. S. Iss-usa relies on its global network of social work providers in 100 countries to provide these services. Iss-usa is the only international social work provider that offers these types of services in the u. S. Iss-usa also makes child protective alerts in most countries in the world, when an adult in the us suspects that a child or other family member may be the victim of abuse and neglect in another country. Finally, iss-usa, in collaboration with mediation experts throughout the iss network and beyond, can assist families involved with cross border conflicts and child abduction to find mediation resources to help them reach a potential solution.
