Causes: International, International Agricultural Development
Mission: The international potato center (cip) seeks to reduce poverty and achieve food security on a sustained basis in developing through scientific research and related activities on potato, sweetpotato, and other root and tuber crops and on the improved management of natural resources in the andes and other mountain areas.
Programs: Direct research potato program for the improvement of potato production and other tuberous roots; collect, maintain and distribute germplasm in order that it may be used nationally and internationally including plant prot res, crop system and seeds.
genebank maintains clonal and seed collections of potato, sweet potato, and other andean roots and tuber crops. Collection is available for use by farmers, plant breeders, and researchers. It is used in breeding programs in over 100 countries.
contribute to national program development training activities and help in the organization of a number of collaborative research.
