Programs: Each year inist sponsors the podcar city conference with locations alternating between the us and europe. The 2017 conference was held in las vegas november 8-10. The 2018 conference will be held october 10-12 in gasklockorna, gavle, sweden. The european conferences are accounted for primarily on the books of our european partner, which is why there are wide swings in the year to year inist results
sustainable mobility system for silicon valley (smssv) is an interdisciplinary project from san jose state university to design a prt (personal rapid transport) system using renewable resources. This is a multi-year joint project with san jose state university providing some of the facilities, the class credits, and the educational structure. Inist provides additional facilities, mentoring, and assistance with procuring donations and reduced price materials from local vendors. This ongoing project through 2017 has introduced over 205 sjsu and approximately 105 international engineering students to the concept of automated personal rapid transportation as a solution to automobile source carbon emissions leading to rapid climate change. These students participated as part of their senior class project. In 2017 thru 2014 the work was exhibited at the bay area maker faire introducing the concept to thousands of faire attendees.
inist sponsors the urban international design competition (uidc) with prizes awarded at the annual podcar city conference. The uidc is a student design contest involving cities, universities, and at least one local sponsor for each city. The goal is to through student teams educate, inspire and motivate important stakeholders to design and visualize how new modes of sustainable public transit can be utilized in their urban environment. We want each team to give their best shot to show how they see their city future.
