Two years ago, my kids attended a bullying prevention workshop, and the impact has lasted. The skills they learned—how to stand up for themselves and others, recognize bullying, and respond effectively—are still a part of their daily lives. The workshop was practical, engaging, and gave them tools they still use today. I’m incredibly grateful for the positive influence it’s had on my kids and would highly recommend it to any parent.

Kidpower is fantastic for teaching kids about safety in a way that really sticks. The workshops are like a fun adventure where they learn important stuff without even realizing it. It's been amazing to see my kids become more confident and aware thanks to Kidpower.

I'd definitely recommend them to any parent who wants their kids to stay safe and feel empowered.

I have worked for Kidpower since long before I had my own children, and have always believed in the skills and mission of the organization. But since having my children, I have really learned about how Kidpower skills can improve so many aspects of our lives. It's not just about preventing problems, it's really about enjoying life to the fullest. Every parenting technique I've tried has been improved and informed by my Kidpower training. We try to keep our Kidpower core safety skills centered in our parenting choices. It not only makes parenting easier, it makes it more fun!

This is a hypocritical organisation that does not practice what it preaches. While it encourages community members to give a positive review here, the leadership also threatens legal action against people speaking out about wrongdoings in the organisation.

I am beyond proud to be a Board Member of Kidpower International. This amazing organization not only improves lives of people all over the world, it improves MY LIFE on a daily basis - as well as the lives of my loved ones. Kidpower's methodology is brilliant; the skills are easy to learn and applicable to all ages and abilities; Kidpower as an organization is profoundly worthy of trust - I have never experienced this level of transparency, honesty and frugality with any other organization I have worked for or supported financially. I can speak from my personal experience that Kidpower skills make for safer, more joy-filled and confident lives.

I have been fortunate to have been able to raise my two kids (now young adults) as "Kidpower kids." It takes my breath away every single time I notice my kids using the skills -- to them, it's just "what you do," and to me it is a reflection of the power of Kidpower. From knowing how to advocate for themselves with adults, to recognizing danger and unsafe behavior, to getting themselves to safety if they feel threatened, to standing up for themselves with peers (and with me!), I see how Kidpower skills have helped my children to become confident, kind, successful people who are ready to be independent in the world. What more could a mother want?!

This program is designed to help individuals of all ages and abilities, which is in itself pretty remarkable. I have had the privilege of teaching the "powers," also known as people or everyday safety skills, to adolescents and young adults with disabilities. The training is based on a foundation of 12 Core Kidpower People Safety Skill Sets and is taught through our Positive Practice Method in age-appropriate ways. We cover Everyday Safety Skills and use examples and activities that relate to the person's age, abilities, and life situation. Their overall response to the training and acquisition of the skills is absolutely phenomenal!

Last fall, Kidpower's Workpower resource made a HUGE difference for a friend of mine who has disabilities and was struggling to work with a boss she found to be demanding and difficult and who would often cross boundaries! Kidpower's Workpower resource gave her skills and confidence to deal with this situation. The skills helped her speak up for herself, protect her feelings - and also helped her to find a different work situation! This friend is just one of many people in my life who have used Kidpower skills to help themselves and their loved ones be safe. From parents to kids to teachers to seniors, Kidpower truly offers something for EVERYONE!

This year, I watched one of my relatives - a young woman who has intellectual disabilities - get excited about using the new Safetypowers.org resource on her own, and I was inspired seeing the relevance, impact, and engagement. Kidpower continues to lead the way in making safety education practical, interactive, and empowering - not scary. I will continue to recommend Kidpower resources and services to benefit people of all ages and abilities in my life!

Kidpower has been with me as a parent through so many situations that would have been much more challenging without this knowledge and these skills. Raising young people in the world today, with tragedies in the news and in our lives, with social media, and helping them form, build, and maintain healthy relationships - while gaining independence and competency in navigating more situations with out us parents by their sides.... it's a lot. I can look to Kidpower comics, books, online workshops, so many videos, articles, and posts - and I know I will find something that helps us with the latest situation (staying safe and getting help for friend with suicidal thoughts, challenges in peer group dynamics, gaining confidence with babysitting and pet sitting jobs, dealing with intrusive relatives at gatherings... and so much more. Thank you Kidpower! Our family is so grateful for your commitment to safety and such a diversity of skills and resources for so many kinds of situations and concerns!

We recently participated in the Boundary Skills Workshop with our 7 1/2 year old son. He has a strong desire to please and be liked which leads to being easily persuaded by his peers to misbehave. Since the workshop we have reinforced what we learned through every day situations. Today, we are in awe of how he put his new found skills to use! We are waiting for Covid test results after he had a few mild symptoms, his friend was pressuring him for a play date and even said “my mom thinks it’s okay for us to play, you probably don’t have covid”. My son said no, emphatically. As much as he wanted to see his friend and with the added pressure of a trusted adult saying it was okay, he stood his ground and said he had to wait for the test results. We could not be more proud of his bravery and confidence! Thank you KidPower!

The principles, skills, and tools that I have learned through Kidpower have positively impacted my life in ways that are too numerous to list here. But I'll try!

I discovered Kidpower when I was in my 20s, and from the beginning, Kidpower's timeless lessons about personal safety and healthy relationships helped me be more aware and confident, and helped me make better life decisions.

In my 30s, Kidpower helped me get through tough times as a parent of toddlers, and helped me have hard conversations with other parents about issues of safety and boundaries with greater ease.

In my 40s, Kidpower was there for my family as my kids navigated middle and high school, complete with friendship struggles, bullying, online dangers, growing independence, and even dating!

Now, I'm in my 50s and my kids are leaving for college. We are STILL looking to Kidpower for guidance about how to make these life transitions confidently, and how to stay connected across distance in a way that is appropriate for my kids' ages.

I am forever grateful to Kidpower for helping me and my family create strong relationships and habits that support our physical and emotional well-being.
Kidpower is not just another nonprofit. Kidpower is truly dedicated to the physical and emotional well-being of ALL. Kidpower is a force for good!

Kidpower is an amazing nonprofit! First and foremost, the programs they offer on people safety are world-class. Their teaching methods emphasize teaching people practical skills in a safe and non-threatening manner. Any participant in any workshop will come away with a host of skills that are effective and useful for everyday living, as well as for keeping yourself safe in high risk situations.

I first came across Kidpower when I was looking for a program to help young women learn self-defense skills. At the time (over 20 years ago!) Kidpower was just developing the teen programs. I joined Kidpower, first as an office assistant and then as a teacher, and have remained committed to the organization in one way or another for all these years. Kidpower offers a resource to the world that is in a class of it's own! The interesting thing, is that although I first sought out Kidpower for self-defense skills, I quickly discovered that the skills they taught changed my life by helping me improve my self-esteem, practice effective boundary setting skills, and develop a more refined sense about how to stay out of danger in the first place.

I use the Kidpower resource library all the time. I refer to The Kidpower Book routinely as a parent, and I am now utilizing the Kidpower resources on bullying to address workplace issues. The writings, cartoons and videos that Kidpower has available are very helpful and easy to search.

I’m volunteering for Kidpower to help teach it’s classes. I have worked with Kidpower for 30 years and have been astounded at how well they treat the people who work inside the organization, as well as those they are serving. The program has been carefully crafted over the years to help children, adults and differently abled people keep themselves emotionally and physically safe. I am deeply moved in every class I participate in, at the difference it makes in their lives. My own life and my daughter’s life have been enriched by this program, by giving us more tools to respond to the difficulties in our lives. For example: One of my daughter’s Uncles has had troubles with drug addiction and the law. My daughter was able to resist his attempts to manipulate her to help him, which would have put her in great danger, through the lessons she learned from Kidpower. I myself have learned how to de-escalate difficult situations, and how to assess possible risks better. I recommend this program to everyone.

Kidpower has helped 2 generations of our family learn how to set boundaries and stay safe from trouble. My niece took the class as an 8 year old, and incorporated many of the skills into her life. Later, When at a Jr. High school dance in 6th grade, she was groped by a group of older boys. To my surprise, when she returned home that night, she was not upset, feeling slimed, but rather was full of pride in having stopped the boys from hurting her and her friends. She walked away from an uncomfortable situation knowing she had choices, she could stop the harm, and she had the physical skills to back her words up in an emergency. She carried this knowledge through her teenage years and now as a mother, is teaching her kids kidpower skills. Our family feels so lucky to have found a partner in our children’s safety.

KidPower is an organization that shares great information for kid safety freely and effectively. It's been a much needed resource for me personally and professionally as I teach skills in a non-scarey way to my children and other families I work with. I have hosted a community training to share this information and all who attended really appreciated the way Irene taught in a succinct way. As a Safe Routes to School Coordinator in 7 schools in our town of Moscow Idaho, KidPower has been my go-to resource to teach parents the importance of walking and biking to school and how to teach our kids personal safety rules while on the streets. I have seen parents and and counselors use this much needed information as they teach their kids how to navigate the world safely. We really appreciate what this non-profit offers us! I accompanied my daughter to three separate trainings, and I used the lessons and the language presented to reinforce the skills she learned at different ages. In 2019, I facilitated Kidpower and Teenpower workshops specifically tailored to students with special needs in my school district in 2019. The students, educators, and parents who participated were enthusiastic about the safety and empowerment skills learned by all. Each person attending the workshop was given the opportunity to practice the skills and to receive coaching and written materials to enable them to practice at home and at school. The respect afforded each participant, the care and commitment to growing the curriculum, and the passionate pursuit of inclusivity make this organization worthy of my 5-star rating.

Training as an instructor with Kidpower changed my entire perspective on safety. Not only is physical safety important — emotional safety is just as crucial, which is something I hadn't ever prioritized in the same way. I got to pass on Kidpower's fun, effective and simple techniques to my students. Watching them practice techniques that got them to speak up in class, look people in the eye, and show confidence I hadn't seen in them was so awesome. Kidpower's mission is noble but they accomplish it in such a down-to-earth way. Kidpower made me a better teacher and a better aunt. They have given me more confidence in becoming a parent someday because I feel I can better prepare my kids for things I wasn't prepared for in my life. Kidpower is truly making a difference with a brilliant, loving team of people and I'm proud to be on the journey with them! Thank you!

My family and I have attended a total of 3 Kidpower workshops between us throughout the years, and I cannot even express how invaluable these workshops are to the well-being and the empowerment of children (and parents). After attending the workshop, my children are more aware of their surroundings, and have gained confidence while out in public because of their awareness and their "safety powers" that they now know that they possess. As for me, I came home with knowledge and confidence on what and how to teach them about safety. Kidpower has been life-changing for my family. Simply put, Kidpower workshops should be a requirement for every parent and child.

Kidpower has been an incredible learning experience. I have been teaching Self Defense for kids for close to two decades before finding Kidpower and since have realized that Kidpowers program is very useful and even more important than just physical skills needed to fight which is what I was previously teaching.

Prior to Kidpower I was basically teaching students how to "defend themselves". A visiting friend (ex police instructor) said to me "you are teaching people to fight, lots of deadly skills, but that not true self defense, check out kidpower" . I went online and contacted a Kidpower instructor and from there went on to the Kidpower training program to learn the Kidpower system. How to avoid a fight is as important as knowing how to fight and its quoted in the "Art of War" winning a fight is walk away without fighting.

Irene hands on worked with the instructors and the more experienced senior instructors were extremely helpful and passionate in passing on their experiences and knowledge. I highly recommend Kidpower to anyone teaching children, females, elderly, etc.

I encountered Kidpower through my neighbor when my now 8-year-old daughter was an infant. I watched how my neighbor used positive and thoughtful language to help her daughters navigate sibling rivalry, and I wanted this tool for myself. She told me about the Kidpower safety comics and I ordered 2, one to give away. I used that and wanted more skills so I went to a Fullpower class and practiced how to be aware, use self defense and not be triggered by aggressive behaviors. I still wanted more so I attended a safety skills class with my now 5-year old daughter. Since then I have taken her to more safety classes, and decided to become a Kidpower instructor myself. This organization is intentionally caring to its clients and employees, respectful of people's needs and differences. I have loved working with them, using their strategies, and have felt very supported during my journey to become an instructor with them.

Kidpower skills and methods helped me to learn how to focus on the skills I want my kids to know rather than on the harm that scared me. This change in perspective made everything easier! Instead of worrying if they were ready to do something, like go on overnights or walk downtown, I focused my energy on practicing skills - and I noticed that my own belief and confidence in their skills grew! Giving them new freedom got much easier, because I had a clearer sense of their skills.

Kidpower boundary skills strengthened our relationships at home - this was an unexpected benefit! The boundary skills that have helped them over the years to manage relationships with friends - and deal effectively with bullying and harassment - have also helped them communicate more effectively with each other and with me. What a gift this has been!

Both my kids decided to take big trips on their own after turning 18. One worked and traveled in Europe; the other hiked the Appalachian Trail. On the days they left, I felt grateful beyond belief that they were carrying their Kidpower skills with them. I knew they would face possible problems - and I knew they had skills and confidence to take action and put safety first.

I work with families raising children who are deaf or hard of hearing through a nonprofit called Hands & Voices. When we found that "our kids" face higher rates of victimization than typically hearing kids, we looked for ways to prevent that. Through our partnership with Kidpower, we now share information with each new family we meet about prevention strategies they can use with babies to teens. Kidpower has even adapted some resources and even specific workshops for "our kids," emphasizing the areas we know kids with hearing loss and their parents need explicitly spelled out. I can't recommend the organization enough in its wise and calm approach to helping all kids develop the life-long ability to set boundaries, to listen to their own intuition, and to put safety first. Our parents say they are grateful for Kidpower's resources, and so are we.

Kidpower has been an amazing resource in our community. I was first introduced to it after a scary incident involving an eight year old in our town. When everyone was filled with fear, Kidpower was able to address our issues while remaining positive and helping kids find empowerment in the middle of a difficult time. Their approach of ensuring that parents and children walk away with the same understanding of communication and expectations is so powerful. Since then, they have done safety training in my son's school and he has learned so much. He knows why he should walk away from threatening situations and how to feel more empowered to have his voice heard. What a positive and important message for our young people!

My three-year-old uses her Kidpower language ALL THE TIME! We play a game where I tickle her and as soon as she wants to, she puts her hands up and says, "Please stop!" Then she waits a second and says, "GO!" and I tickle her again! I love knowing that she's playing when she really wants to. Kidpower helps her feel safe making her own choices about what she likes and doesn't like, and helps her feel comfortable checking in with me whenever she's worried or confused.

Kidpower has literally changed my life. I'm based in the UK and had been researching for a long time about safeguarding and the dangers our children face. When I couldn't find anything in the UK to help with preventative action, I decided to look further afield and came across Kidpower's website, perhaps by chance but I believe that they answered my prayers. I have been in touch with them ever since and have found their resources to be a God-send. I have since ordered all of their books and watched many of their videos and try to read as much as possible about their work, their experience and their advice. Their willingness to help others is wonderful. I hope that their legacy lives on and that their passion for saving lives and helping to prevent unsafe situations is integrated into every family in every society.

Kidpower has been wonderful for my 9 year old.
My daughter was having problems with a "friend" who was exhibiting not very friendly behavior and who began targeting my child. My daughter is an only child and as a result has not had to develop the day to day skills other children with siblings have learned; "easy" life skills that were hard for us to teach her without real life situations. I found Kidpower online by doing a google search and have been so grateful for all the information they share so freely. She has been practicing the skills, especially the walking away, and she feels so much more in control of herself and her ability to handle difficult situations.
Thank you!

I had been hesitant to talk to her about safety because I didn't want to scare her. Kidpower gave me the tools to teach her how to be aware of her surroundings and make choices to keep herself safe. And she loved practicing the skills!

We continue to learn age appropriate skills to help her stay safe as she gets older. Thanks Kidpower!

I work with many children who need mental healthcare at least in part because of their experiences of not being emotionally or physically safe - through bullying, abuse, or other harm. I hope that by teaching Kidpower skills I can help future children live happier, healthier lives. The skills Kidpower teaches are valuable and practical. The way Kidpower operates is consistent with the values they espouse (which seems a rarity to me). I have a 10 year-old son who is autistic and a 7 year-olddaughter and have been looking for resources to teach safety to our kids without fear and without discrimination. When I looked for info on the web, I found the excellent Kidpower web site and books. My son and daughter and I read the cover page of the coloring book last night, and they coloured it in. We are now practicing that page.

As I looked through the Kidpower book, I recognized how much it can help my children. My son, being autistic, doesn't always know the best way to solve a problem. They say that social stories help autistic kids learn what to do. And I find that each page of the Kidpower safety book is like a social story. It gives examples of what to do and not do (with your hands), and what to say.

I'm sure these Kidpower stories and skills will give my son the knowledge and self-confidence he needs to act in appropriate ways in the future when someone disrespects him or doesn't follow the rules.

The Kidpower website and program provide an important service that can help many families.

My girlfriend and I took a Fullpower course several months ago after several increasingly scary incidents that we encountered both in the small city of Santa Cruz and in SF. Even with a background in martial arts and wrestling, I still got A LOT out of the physical skills presented at the workshop. The padded instructors are incredibly skilled individuals who generally do this as a second job, because THEY CARE about the safety of the community at large.

The verbal skills presented are invaluable for all ages, and I immediately noticed a changed in my girlfriend's perception of potentially dangerous situations and quick thinking in the event that someone might approach her at night. It has given both of us a peace of mind and I would recommend the workshop to not only all children, but adults as well.

We are so grateful to have Kidpower skills and vocabulary as an integral part of our family dialogue about not just safety, but also relationships. This morning my 5-year-old daughter said, "Mom, I have to tell you something about safety." I used my get-centered power and I smiled at her and said, "tell me all about it." She told me about some teasing and mean language among some of the kids at school and she wanted to know what some of the words meant. We had a talk on the way to school about friendship, how problems don't have to be secrets, using and teaching others the Kidpower trash can, and standing up for what is right. By the time we got to school for drop-off she was telling me she was ready to speak up if it happened again and help the kids who were getting teased. She had the words to say and the confidence to say them. She was smiling and happy and excited for her day. Thank you Kidpower!

Kidpower empowers its participants by helping them use their minds, hearts and bodies to know how to act with awareness, calm and confidence, take charge of a problem, often even before its starts, and persist in getting help till they get the help they need. I first took the Kidpower course with my children when they were ages 4 & 6. My daughter was the older child, & even a year later when we might be talking about a topic related to relationships or personal boundaries, she would say, "Well, Kidpower says... " That speaks volumes to how easily the concepts are learned by children because of how Kidpower teaches them. Even today, 8 years later, I can still reference some of the skills & relationship concepts we were taught as a way I know my children will understand from their experience with Kidpower.

This is an excellent program & because the things that are taught are done so in a way which is so user-friendly, I seriously recommend it to everyone I know (to people personally, as well as schools, churches, & other organizations of which I am a part. My children's school actually hired Kidpower to conduct workshops at the school!).

The thing that impressed me most, is how well the material was conveyed to both the parents and the children in the room. My son and I now have a common language that we can use to discuss topics around safety and empowerment. The follow up materials (the included comic book) was a hit with my son and he likes to go back and read it with me from time to time. It is an extremely effective way to reinforce the topics that we had discussed during the workshop so that he can apply the principles on a daily basis.

Kidpower is an amazing program that should be required in every public school in America, annually. We teach our children so much but with child safety issues we still need to increase education. I attended an afternoon class that some concerned parents put together. Kidpower came and not only had great materials to read through after the class was over, but they role played many different difficult situations in a calm approach that was helpful to our children, but not overwhelmed them. Doing it correct the first time in a practice situation will only increase our children's chances of being about to make the right decisions in difficult situations whether it be lost in a store, talking to strangers or have a close family friend or even family member cross inappropriate boundaries. The comic book we took home continues to reinforce the correct learned responses. Kidpower is a priceless gift to give children and teens. And it is never too early to teach our children how to have their own power!

My 8 year old son was just harassed on our block by three older neighborhood boys. He came home crying and sad. When I asked him about what had happened he told me the story. Despite being upset by the experience - he had actually followed Kidpower personal safety rules that he'd learned in the two workshops he's attended! I was happy to hear that he had followed his safety rules: he didn't answer them back (used his mouth-closed power); didn't get closer to them but rode away (used his move-away power); came home immediately (went to safety) and told me (got help). THIS is Kidpower in action. When a child can use skills from a workshop to stay safe in the moment - that spells success!

But I was also impressed with how fun, interactive, and the non-feared based ways in which the skills were taught. There was nothing scary about learning how to be safe around people! I realized after that class that both my children needed a Kidpower class - but not just once. They will each attend every year of their lives until adulthood. People safety skills are like water and bike safety skills - they need to be lived and practiced daily. I sincerely believe every child and teen needs and deserves a Kidpower Teenpower class every year.

The book is very useful , I have used and discussed with my daughter and she has found it very useful and learnt the skills . I am absolutely a great admirer of this organisation. Would like to volunteer for them when they are in India.

I am absolutely in love with this organization and attribute their teachings to protecting and empowering both my children and I. I have attended numerous workshops with Kidpower and find them to be exceptional. They are power based, not fear based. This is not about Stranger Danger, this is about teaching children to look, listen and be strong, to talk, to have a voice, to use it, to help them selves and to help others. Many times my children have used what they have learned from Kidpower, as have I. When tragic events happen the first thing I do is suggest Kidpower programs to those in need. So often people feel helpless or lost when they have heard of an event that places lives in jeopardy of when something painful has happened to them or those they know. Kidpower helps to remove those feelings and replace them with strength, dignity and power.

My daughter took a Kidpower workshop two years ago at age 12, and it increased her skills, awareness and confidence. She's small and slight for her age, so it also helped lessen my anxiety about her safety. Now that she is in a large high school with an open campus, I plan to take her back to Kidpower for another workshop to refresh and add to her skills. Kidpower provides an excellent and unique community service.

I've been to a workshop with my daughter and granddaughter and my granddaughter loved it and learned some skills that she likes using. I am a family law attorney and I routinely carry a kidpower coloring workbook in my briefcase. When I see a bored, cranky small child in the courthouse hall who is figiting and driving his/her parent nuts, I give the pagges to them and so far, both parent and child have become interested and entertained. The materials offered by this group are very worthwhile and helpful.

As a family law attorney, I gave the wotkbook to a client who'5 year old was acting angry and hitting children who said mean things to him. He wouldn't let her stop reading it to him and wanted to start over when they were finished. The next day he told his mom that when a child had been mean to him, he decided that the child was not safe and used his walk away power to solve the problem. He and my client were very pleased. This really should be taught in schools.

I had been searching for the appropriate self-defense workshop that I could take with my 16-year old son and feel very fortunate to have found the Teenpower program. The instructors addressed the needs of all the participants based on their personal experiences, age, background and ability. They were caring, and experienced teachers. The program was interesting, informative, useful and fun all at the same time. I would highly recommend it and suggest that organizations look to offering similar programs in schools and community associations.

As a Kidpower Instructor as well as a PE teacher, I can honestly say that having a 'Kidpower culture' in a school helps to promote respect and boundaries for each student. It offers useful tools to use on the playground as well as in my PE classes. Along with that, the care and concern that the Kidpower administration provides for its Instructors is a shining example for us to pass on to all who attend Kidpower workshops.

The first Kidpower workshop I ever attended taught me more about parenting than any book I've ever read on the subject. I finally had useful language to use while trying to teach my son about how to behave in the world and keep himself safe! With the skills he and I have learned from Kidpower, I am confident about our journey through childhood. I look forward to attending more workshops as he enters adolescence so that I can help him better navigate that difficult period. I believe so deeply in what Kidpower is teaching that I have become a regular donor, and I have organized Kidpower workshops for parents in two of my son's schools in our home town. I think EVERYONE should have a chance to hear what they have to say. Even if you have parenting down to a science, I truly believe you can still learn from them.

Kid power is a fabulous resource for parents of any age kids. I attended workshops with my 2 children when they were each around 5 years old, right about the time they were going off to elementary school which is a stressful time for most parents. Kidpower helped me by articulating safety rules for common situations they might encounter. As parents my husband and I were worried about the unknown dangers, your imagination can go a little overboard when you are sending your precious child some where without you for the first time. Kidpower helped us to realize what the true dangers are and also to prepare for situations that we may not have thought about. More recently I got a call from the founder asking for support in the form of a donation and I took the opportunity to ask her about an issue I was facing with my teenager and she took the time to discuss my concerns, reassure me, and offered advice on how best to handle the situation. We were on the phone for at least 20 minutes discussing parenting issues, now that is an organization that really cares!

Kidpower gives specific concrete actions to take, and insists that we practice. Kidpower is very loving wil they guide us to a new mindset - one that helps us feel empowered, free to put our own safety first (at last! who knew it would feel sooo radical, to put my and my daughter's safety first?). When I am asked for advice about safety and bullying, I always refer people to Kidpower, because they translate their deep care for every human being into easy, fun, practicable action.

The email newsletters that Irene puts out addressing some tragedy that I've been following in the news are SO HELPFUL in making sure that I deal with my own fears before trying to help my kids be safe. As a mother who was sexually abused when I was little, I've struggled with how to keep my son safe without scaring him or being so over protective as to stifle his growth. Fortunately, my son's school PTA arranged for Kidpower to teach a parent workshop about how to talk with kids about their safety. I left that event with the most profound sense of relief - that there was a way to keep my son safe without scaring him - and empowerment - that I could help him to be safe in ways I never was. At the parent class, I bought one of Kidpower's safety comic books and used that as a way to introduce the subject with my son. He loved the comic book and insisted on reading the whole thing in one sitting! Since the parent event, my son and I have participated in several other workshops. Even though he didn't want to go to the classes before hand, afterwards, he admitted to having fun, especially during the class where he learned the physical self-defense skills. All that I've learned through Kidpower has helped me support my son to stay aware of and, sometimes, be cautious of the world around him, but not afraid. I, of course, wish there was a guarentee that nothing bad would ever happen to him, but I know that's not possible. Instead, I've done what I can, and will continue to do, to give him the best tools I know of to deal with lifes challenges, threats, and upsets. The best tools I've found come from Kidpower.

We were excited to take our 3-yr-old daughter to her first Starting Strong Kidpower workshop over the summer. I read the Kidpower book as part of my interests in teaching and later as a soon-to-be parent. So we had been talking about some of the ideas around stopping mean words, sharing and taking turns, etc. But then we took the class and she just blossomed. We also got the comic book and it became a favorite right away. The cartoons are understandabe even to a pre-reader. The skills are presented step by step. And her fascination with some of the stories has made things like making safety plans to avoid getting lost in the store AP much easier. She loves to practice and she loves all her various "powers" to be safe. Kidpower has made conversations about worries so much easier and interesting rather than scary for all of us. And our ability to advocate for her is so much cleaner - we have clear language for describing problems in respectful ways that other parents pick up in and start to use as well!

One of the benefits of all adults in a child's life participating in a Kidpower workshop is that this helps to develop a shared understanding about safety. Unfortunately, if there is a negative relationship and a parent feels forced to come to a workshop under pressure by the other parent, this can backfire into a very angry reaction. If StrayedEtsy wants to provide specific feedback to safety@kidpower.org about exactly what else didn't work besides feeling pressured to go, we would appreciate having this information as we are always looking for ways to improve our services. Someone once told me - if everyone is thinking alike then somebody isn't thinking.

Five stars, unanimously, across the board? Odd. Except for one or two reviews? Super huge clue they are having their staff write (and churn) reviews.

Bad form. While not prohibited, staff reviews are discouraged, and many of these reviewers specifically identify themselves as staff.

I attended a workshop. under pressure from other parents in my kids age range.

Total BS. Tons of common sense, with a healthy dose of fear mongering and fund raising.

Thanks for the cult induction, but I haven't sipped the Kool Aid.

They teach your kids just enough to get in trouble, but not enough to defend themselves. It's self defense - light - kind of, not effectively.

If you are impressed by their supposed "martial arts" credentials, then make sure you research their co-founder, Timothy Dunphy. He claims to be able to heal people by connecting their "chi" with their "aura" via music and light. (http://www.chiaura.com/)

If you believe that, sign your kids up for a Kidpower workshop and "believe" they are safer.

If T.Gustus chooses to contact our organization directly, he or she will find that we appreciate feedback and always give refunds on the rare occasions that someone is not happy with a workshop. In our public workshops, we do not turn people away for lack of money - and we seek funding to reach out to people in homeless shelters and other places serving children in high-risk situations. Most of our instructors and center directors are NOT paid by Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower International - they started as parents, teachers, and other caring adults -- and have volunteered countless hours and donated a tremendous amount of their own resources to be able to bring these skills to others.

Every once in a rare while, a person may be able, if they are lucky, to come across someone who is kind, extremely generous, has a lot of brains and the gumption and willpower to see something through to the very end.

Well, I was fortunate to find TWO of these people!

And they founded KIDPOWER.

I have had the pleasure of working with both of these brilliant kind hearted, selfless individuals for years.

Irene, over 7 years side by side in the KIDPOWER office and Timothy Dunphy much longer through the martial arts.

While knowing personally how miraculous KIDPOWER can and does help change lives on a daily basis through their non-profit outreach self protection program, which is unparalleled, I find it an undeniable time to give praise where praise is due.

This program would not exist without the selfless brilliance and endless years of hard work of the two co-founders.

If I sound a bit exaggerated, believe me, that is just not possible.

Irene and Timothy had an idea and GAVE OF THEMSELVES so others could be safe.

And they continue to do so.

What can be more amazing than that?

I can think of only one thing. What they created. KIDPOWER

By the end of the day I was still nervous but very excited to see that I had more power then I thought I had. They taught me to walk with my head held high and be proud. I re-discovered all kinds of things that should have been common sense but for some reason I was no longer able to see. I ended up loving every minute of the course. The instructors where enthusiastic, knowledgeable and very sympathetic to my situation they took to the time to help me (not just me but everybody that was there). I have been able to teach my daughter some of the things that they taught me. The skills that I learned are skills that everybody should know. I will be taking more classes with them. I will also be taking my daughter to classes as well. I would recommend there classes to anybody. The impact that they had on me will be long lived. I walked in scared and nervous and walked out proud and tall. I would endorse Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower with every ounce of my being, for everybody that would like to learn every day safety skills, boundary setting, full force safety skill… This class that I took covered all of those things and more. Now my kids know to always check first with an adult, and they are empowered to know how to handle things when confronted with a bully or someone trying to put them down. Kidpower, as an organization and community, practices what it teaches. The organization as a whole is ethical and its integrity shines through in its curriculum, staff, volunteers and programs. The dignity and respect of every human is honored allowing a person's powers to help keep themselves safe.

Kidpower has taught me so much about myself and about how to react in any type of situation. As a translated the work, I was not only working but learning and relearning things that my parents taught me when I was younger-and I thought ""GREAT, finally!...this is the parents handbook on how to raise their kids safely and how to talk to them about scary situations!" I honestly think that if each parent got one of Kidpowers comic books, there would be better parents out there and children would be safer. I also took their self defense workshop and after that I felt that when I walked in that room I really didnt know what I would do if I were to get attacked, now when I am alone in dark/unsafe areas I feel impowered and confident.

I became involved in KidPower many many years ago. I originally got involved through a dear friend and client who became a spokesperson for the organization. I went to her graduation and was so impressed in her transformation, I took the training and then when my boys, who are now 25 and 26, were old enough I gave them the training. I realized through my training the confidence and knowledge of my own strengths. I owe KidPower for all the was given to me and my sons. I was able to let my children go out in the world knowing they had the knowledge and ability to be safe. I saw the benefits then and know it helps them to this day to be confident in themselves where ever they go. I continue to stay involved and connected for anyone I know who can benefit from this organization. Everyone should know how to be Safe.

For many years I volunteered my expertise in marketing and Internet marketing to KidPower because of my opinion of their work. What they do is of the highest possible standard and effectiveness, and the organization operates with outstanding levels of quality control and ethics. Their integration of all the key aspects of self-protection and personal safety (understanding, awareness, intuition, emotion, and verbal and physical skills) into a thoroughly positive and life-enhancing process is extraordinary. I have a third-degree black belt in Aikido, and have practiced karate. I have taught workshops similar to Kidpower's, and am intimately acquainted with this sort of approach. I would recommend them to any person or organization - for children and adults.

Every where today there are moms (and dads!) who want to help their children understand how to be safe in this very unsafe feeling world without paralyzing their children with fear about the possibility of violence out there. Kidpower Teenpower Fullpower has helped me, my niece, my son, and soon my daughter learn how to walk tall, be confident yet safe and in such as empowering way. Their workshops on safety help on so many levels, both in learning how to be preventative and safe while also sharing practical self defense information for the worst case scenario. I wish everyone could take their workshop! Thank you Kidpower Teenpower, Fullpower! You help keep us safe and empowered! Sincerely, Gwynne Cropsey

Kidpower is an organization deeply committed to the safety of all people. I have been so impressed with the constant desire to improve the curriculum, to increase service, and to meet the needs of new clients. It is an organization that "walks its talk." It is run by a small group of dedicated individuals who work as an amazing team to provide life-changing skills to so many people each year. I believe everyone, from the people who process registrations or make reminder phone calls up to the Executive Director, at Kidpower strive to give their absolute best, everyday. I feel very proud to be part of the organization.

I've been amazed to see how Kidpower skills have helped me deal with all kinds of challenges over the years, both with people I know as well as with strangers. Having these skills helps me feel more confident and a lot less worried than I felt in the days before I took my first Kidpower class. As a parent, I have more peace of mind, because I can see my kids using good, solid skills to make safer choices. It's fun and exciting to be a part of the process of helping other people figure out, in just a small amount of time, ways to take charge of their well-being every day.

Before sending my 18 yr old daughter off to college I wanted her to have another opportunity to train (all three of my daughters have now been through Kidpower three times). It was very touching to watch a group of 10 girls come together with enthusiasm and mutual support as Anne and Sterling expertly took them through the training. They emerged smiling and speaking with self confidence. I have seen the benefits of the training in both the psychological and physical realm. I wish I could make it a required course for every child.

Kidpower-Teenpower-Fullpower has given me the skills needed to keep me safe. Over the past 20 years I have graduated through each stage of the organization. When in kidpower I learned the skill of saying "no" and when you’re a kid that is a very powerful skill. When in the teen classes I learned how to deal with bullies and the importance of being aware of my surroundings. In the adult classes I learned both the physical and verbal skills I would need to keep myself safe as I grew up and went out into the world. Not only did I learn all of these things, but the environment that I was taught was fun, loving, and safe. The skills I have learned are a part of me and come to me when I need them most. For example: When I was being robbed in my garage a few years ago I was terrified. Trapped in my car with a man standing between me and the door. As he came toward me my voice kicked in and my body moved for me. Next thing I knew I was standing in my driveway watching him run in the other direction. These skills saved my life that night. When this happened I hadn't taken a class in well over a year, but the skills I had learned had stayed with me, and continue to be with me today. I don't know what I would have done with out the skills taught by this organization. It is filled with great knowledgeable people and I would recommend them to anyone.

The instructor, Anne and Sterling, did a great job leading the workshop. They thoroughly covered skills and techniques that will be useful to this particular group of students and did it in a fun and engaging way. They made everyone very comfortable and gave great, constructive feedback. The majority of the participants were women and they created an environment where the women could get out of their shells a bit, use their voice, and realize how strong they are and that they can defend themselves. Since this workshop was targeted to a specific and unique group, I was impressed how easily Anne and Sterling adapted things to reflect the fact that students may be using these techniques in another country and language. They did a great job and I'd highly recommend the organization.

I have been involved with Kidpower for 20 years, beginning as a volunteer. I have experienced interaction with this wonderful organization as a volunteer, mother of a child lucky enough to recieve these safety skills from age 5 through adulthood, instructor trainee, instructor, community liaison and Board Member. Our lives have been enriched through increased confidence in all of our interactions with people and our knowledge that we live safely every day. My continued work with Kidpower is to bring this confidence to others.

I have worked with this organization for fifteen years and chose to do so because it is truly makes a difference in people's lives. This is an interpersonal safety education organization that helps individuals reduce their risk of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. I began as a volunteer and have helped our Center train more than 28,500 individuals since 1994. This is an organization that values respect amongst its staff and clientele. The staff of this organization work here because they are completely committed and dedicated to its mission and that is extraordinary.

Kidpower provides children, teens, parents, and other adults with empowering information and skills to not only stay safe but to create healthy boundaries in all our relationships. Without scaring kids in any way, Kidpower workshops help them learn to set boundaries with friends, family members, bullies on the playground, and strangers that keep them from being a target and strengthen all their relationships. All the parents who have participated in these workshops have found it to be very valuable.

I am an instructor and trainer. Every class I teach strengthens my commitment to everyone's safety and well-being. I appreciate how the Kidpower programs respect individuals and support choices while imparting skills for articulating needs, wants and boundaries in safe and respectful ways. I have witnessed the sense of personal power and strength emerge as students have learned the "emergency-only skills". It is amazing and gratifying to see women, men and children find their voices and use their own power to successfully defend themselves.

I have had the honor of working with many talented and dedicated people to create curriculum, develop services, train instructors, and establish centers around the world. We have reached over 1.2 million people of all ages and abilities, especially children and women in need, with empowering, effective skills for taking charge of their emotional and physical safety. The skills we teach prepare people to use boundaries to build better relationships; advocate effectively for the well-being of themselves and others; and protect themselves and their loved ones from most bullying, molestation, assault, and abduction. Our challenge is to become much more widely known as a valuable resource to use and an important charity to support.
