Programs: Services to local governments:icma's global and u. S. Programs combine the experience of local government practitioners with that of researchers and expert consultants to design, implement, and evaluate local government management projects worldwide. Icma provides consulting and other expertise on fundamental and leading local government management practices in the u. S. And around the world, working through funding partners such as federal agencies and foundations. Icma member expertise is tapped for city-to-city exchanges throughout the world as well. In fy 2017, global programs worked with 164 communities to increase local capacity; engaged 271 volunteer advisors; and trained 8,448 participants. (continued on schedule o)
professional development:leadership and professional development are key to building capacity in our members and those hoping to lead local governments throughout the world. Each year, through its highly praised annual conference, icma continues to offer an abundance of educational, information-sharing, and networking tools to help local government professionals manage communities in today's complex environment. membership:icma members are the organization's top priority and as a result of this focus, membership grew to a record-breaking 11,000 members in 32 countries. 85% of icma members rated the value of icma membership as excellent or good, and 88% are satisfied or very satisfied with membership. research and policy:icma continues to be second only to the federal government in the collection and analysis of local government research. Here are some of the program accomplishments: - continued development of new content from survey research as well as additional approaches. Our current research is focused on smart cities, alternative service delivery, cybersecurity, and emerging projects on policing issues. Disseminated research findings through icma channels and other well recognized outlets to better inform the practice of local government management. - finalized annual survey of local government innovation. - produced local government review to present key research findings and expert insights about local government issues and trends in december 2016 as a special section of public management (pm) magazine. - completed five national surveys on local government policies and programs. - completed cao compensation and salary survey and cybersecurity survey. - developed 5 new data snapshots. - secured funding for research projects on technology and smart cities. - published a white paper on public infrastructure financing. Outreach:a key priority for icma is to keep local government leaders up-to-date on leading practices, emerging issues, and research results through its many outreach channels including media partnerships. Here are some highlights: - launched a new icma. Org website using a state-of-the-art platform for mobile and search-engine friendly use. Generated 6. 3 million pageviews, 1. 1 million visitors, 25% of which were mobile visits. - produced video spotlights and member testimonials. Launch a new member center on the new icma. Org website and revitalized members-only platforms and social media engagement. - continued the members-only newsletter and distribution of the pm magazine in both online and print formats. - delivered localgov life podcast series. - media outreach efforts generated 788 million media impressions, of which 517 million came from high-profile national/trade publications and/or blogs such as yahoo news, austin american statesman, tampa bay times, sun sentinel and mlive. - achieved 40,000 downloads of member/nonmember contents and 7,000 downloads of members-only e-books. - achieved social media audience of 44,000, a 34% increase, with a 31% increase in engagements. - through the life, well run initiative, highlighted the successes of local governments which are professionally managed. The life, well run website included more than 20 new success stories. - highlighted empirical data that demonstrates the performance differential of professionally managed local governments through news releases, articles, and blog posts.
