Mission: The organization's mission is to educate and assist individuals and families affected by gambling disorders by supporting the finest peer-reviewed scientific research into pathological and youth gambling; encouraging the application of new research findings to improve prevention, diagnostic, intervention and treatment strategies; and advancing public education about responsible gaming.
Programs: Conference - annual conference on gambling and addiction held and was attended by approximately 200 treatment providers, public health workers, researchers, students, regulators and members of the gaming industry. Topics included screening and diagnosis of gambling disorder; the dsm-5; spirituality and mental health; a native american recovery movement; mindfulness; responsible gaming; warning messages on gaming machines; and resistance to treatment.
ncrg research grants program through this program, which is guided by a scientific advisory board of independent experts, ncrg provides long-term funding for innovative, multi-disciplinary research at the ncrg centers of excellence in gambling research, located at yale university and the university of chicago in addition, nine other academic organizations received research grants.
ncrg's communications function includes activities which support the public education dimension of ncrg's mission by employing tools such as webinars, blogs, and monographs to reach target audiences. Ncrg strives to raise public awareness of pathological gambling; provide meaningful research-based education for clinicians, health providers, and the gaming industry; and promote a lively exchange of ideas within the field of gambling research. Media outreach - the ncrg activities are often accompanied by a media outreach program to educate the public about the work of the ncrg and the progress being made on the research front and in other areas. The ncrg distributed press releases and media alerts to more than 375 members of the media communications - publications.
