Mission: Interfaith youth core (ifyc) seeks to partner with colleges and universities working to turn religious diversity into a positive force in our society.
Programs: Communications & knowledgebase - ifyc contributes to and curates a knowledgebase that provides the theoretical core to undergird practice. In partnership with co-principal investigators dr. Alyssa rockenbach and dr. Matthew mayhew, ifyc has a research initiative, interfaith diversity experiences and attitudes survey (ideals), which provides an actionable dataset to inform effective campus practices in interfaith learning. - ifyc's reach in higher education and beyond was record breaking in many ways in fy17. Through a strategic mix of earned media, social media engagement, a robust email program, ifyc reached over an estimated seven million members of our target audience on campus and many more in the wider public. Our knowledgebase, programs, and mission were featured or referenced in over 210 stories published in higher education editorial lanes as well as influential popular press. -ifyc launched inter, a digital magazine and media training program that explores interfaith ideas for modern american life through the often thought provoking perspectives of diverse millennials. Inter stories reached over two million college-aged readers in fy17. - in fy17, ifyc and organizational research partners completed the second survey administration for ideals, surveying over 20,000 undergraduates. The team cleaned and analyzed the data, presented preliminary findings at several national conferences, and laid the groundwork for future publications and presentations.
leaders - ifyc trains, cultivates, and networks a set of campus leaders, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators, to advance interfaith cooperation within their spheres of influence. Ifyc resources and networks a growing base of ifyc alumni who will continue to lead interfaith efforts in their personal and professional lives beyond graduation, therefore beginning to lead societal adoption. -deep and ongoing leadership efforts across the country were indicated by the success of our leadership programs. We trained 585 students at the 101 level and 589 students at more advanced levels. Ifyc engaged 1,387 campus staff members at the 101 and advanced levels combined. The majority of these leaders (1,218) participated in introductory "101" trainings in a variety of settings including on campuses, at conferences, and online. In addition, we engaged 213 campus faculty through a range of higher touch and lower touch programs. -in the divisive national environment after the 2016 election, many ifyc alumni spoke out about the importance of interfaith leadership in this moment. In response, ifyc's alumni relations team offered to connect anyone who wanted to meet with other alumni in their area. In less than five days, 85 alumni in 25 cities asked to be connected, and more joined the conversation over the remainder of the year. Gatherings were held in chicago, new york, los angeles, dc, jerusalem, denver, minneapolis/st. Paul, indianapolis, and boston. In addition, ifyc secured funding to provide alumni with small project grants to support interfaith leadership efforts they may undertake locally. These could include projects such as local letter-writing or media campaigns, interfaith relationship building in their communities, or educational opportunities within their workplaces.
model environments - ifyc articulates a high standard of excellence for launching and sustaining interfaith initiatives within higher education, using our leadership practices for interfaith excellence in higher education as a guidepost. We partner with campuses to implement consultations, devise assessment resources, and steward relationships over the long-term, achieving sustainable institution-wide shifts embedding interfaith cooperation. - with over 400 campuses adopting ifyc's 1 to 9 leadership practices for interfaith excellence, a commitment to interfaith cooperation has spread to over 14% of the 2,800-unit sector (four year, residential colleges and universities). -ifyc launched campus interfaith inventory (cii), an institutional assessment to help campus partners track their work along ifyc's 9 leadership practices for interfaith excellence in higher education. In practice, the cii serves as both a tool to promote individual campus change as well as an assessment instrument that will help ifyc understand campus programs and refine our approach to measuring emerging and established campuses. -at the close of fy17, we awarded 51 campus innovation grants to college and university campuses to support the deepening of interfaith efforts and staff and faculty capacity. - our work to support the development of 220 new courses and course sequences in interfaith studies continued to grow considerably in fy17, as we both catalyzed and leveraged exponential interest from faculty, higher education networks, and philanthropic partners.
