Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal Training, Animals

Mission: Eric & Julie Smith have been active & respected in animal welfare for 20 years and now focus their resources on controlling pet overpopulation. The Smiths have always funded their organization's operations privately, but are seeking donations & grants to provide greater access to spay/neuter services for low-income residents of Central Indiana. The Smiths have lectured on animal welfare widely, including at the renowned Purdue Veterinary School, and have used their business & communications acumen to "mainstream" animal welfare, specifically by their founding & funding of the successful Indy Pets ALIVE! Coalition. The Smiths' mottos: "If you can, you should." and "Compassionate, yet rational." The Smiths have retired from their businesses and now work full-time promoting I-CAN's efforts. I-CAN's tenets: (1) encouraging spay/neuter (esp. early-age); (2) promoting pet ownership as a lifetime commitment; & (3) encouraging adoption from shelters & rescue groups.
