Mission: Colorado drug endangered children, inc. , promotes the health, safety, and well being of drug endangered children through statewide training, technical assistance and advocacy efforts.
Programs: Training and advocacy - colorado dec offers training on the issues facing drug endangered children (dec) to increase the identification of and services to drug endangered children in colorado. Tailored training courses through the child welfare training system and specialized workshops are offered to provide support, networking, and training on dec issues to professionals across colorado. Colorado dec supports the development and dissemination of innovative practices, programs, and policies targeting system and service gaps related to substance abuse and child welfare in colorado. This is done in partnership with experts in the field, local community members, and the state methamphetamine task force.
technical assistance - colorado dec also offers technical assistance opportunities to engage multiple professionals involved in the criminal justice, child welfare, and treatment systems in more efficient and effective collaborative solutions. The drug endangered children tracking system (decsys) ensures that drug endandered children are identified as quickly as possible, that appropriate agencies are involved, and that fewer drug endangered children go unnoticed. Colorado dec is introducing decsys to all 64 counties in colorado as well as replicating the system to five additional states via the national alliance for drug endangered children network to demonstrate its effectiveness for national use. In addition, colorado dec is supporting community level implementation of circle of parents in recovery support groups and substance exposed newborns initiatives.
