Causes: Human Services
Mission: Mission: We are organized to provide the members of our community with the basic tools needed to survive and to empower them to be engaged in achieving and accomplishing their goals. I Am My Brother’s Keeper Ministry (IAMBKM) Inc. Is a 501 C (3) Nonprofit Organization Incorporated In 2018. We operate to provide Richmond County with the following services: day shelter, holistic counseling, food and nutrition, hygiene products, employment skills, clothing, healthcare education, and social interactions. We also advocate for homeless/transient persons and provide intensive life skills coaching. Poverty is the common denominator in all the clients we serve. Since the 1980’s the homeless population in Augusta, Georgia has increased over the decades. In February 2019, I Am My Brother’s Keeper Ministry (IAMBKM) received its 501(c)(3) Public Charity status, solidifying its commitment to the community as a Homeless Day Shelter in Augusta Georgia that provides services in a holistic manner. Initially, IAMBKM started by offering Bible studies and handing out free sack lunches to those experiencing homelessness. The simple act of distributing meals soon became a beacon of hope for the Harrisburg community. Citizens with a shared concern started to volunteer, drawn by the magnetism of compassion and a shared vision. The ministry's heartwarming services didn't stop with Bible studies and food. IAMBKM's doors opened wider, introducing a clothes closet, showers for the homeless, and a daytime sanctuary known as "The Love Center." A warm and inviting "Welcome to The Love Center'' became the anthem of support and care.
Results: Day Shelter The purpose of this proposal is to continue to provide a Day Shelter which will serve homeless persons/families who are exposed to extreme weather conditions. Due to the dire need in Augusta-Richmond County to provide a Day Shelter for the 1000 homeless persons documented by the Augusta Homeless Task Force (WJBF News Channel 9/14/2022). The Day Shelter makes a difference for both the City Of Augusta and those experiencing homelessness. We provide them access to a safe and structured Day Shelter from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. The Day Shelter closes the gap for unsheltered homeless people after leaving night time shelters. We are providing transportation from the Salvation Army Center of Hope Night Shelter to the Day Shelter at the Love Center. We do not discriminate or exclude any human being that come to the Love Center Day Shelter. In 2024, we will: Purchase a transportation van to provide transport for 20 percent of the clients from the Center of Hope nighttime shelter. Provide temporary shelter assistance for 20 percent of the clients we serve. We will pay for 2 weeks of hotel/motel stays.
