Causes: Human Service Organizations, Human Services
Mission: To provide food, clothing, and spiritual support to those in need in wheeling and the surrounding area
Programs: Each week over 1,400 people are served by the house of the carpenter. Many benefit from the programs that exist to help meet the basic needs of our neighbors. These needs are met through the food pantry, fresh food initiative, weekend backpack program, utility assistance, christmas kids program, summer work team program, ramp construction and other programs. Other programs are designed to provide educational and experiential opportunities that assist our neighbors in improving their quality of life. Some of these programs include guitar lessons, art classes, cooking classes for children, youth and adults, summer camp, literacy camp, mission camp, financial management classes, community dinner and worship. The more than 30 programs offered annually are made possible by the numerous volunteers who contributed over 15,000 volunteer hours in 2017.
