Mission: Among the services Hospice Care of DC offers: Treatment of the patient's physical symptoms and pain by a physician-directed, nurse-coordinated team of health care professionals Care for the spiritual, psychosocial and emotional pain of patients and families facing death, provided by clergy, social workers and trained volunteers Emotional support for the patient's family and friends during the illness Bereavement care for the surviving family and friends after the patient's death On-call availability of the Hospice team, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week Coordination of related services, such as certified nursing assistants, physical, occupational and speech therapists; and others who may be needed to provide comfort and symptom control Management of medications, medical supplies and equipment related to the patient's terminal illness Coordination of in-patient care, when appropriate.
Programs: Hospice Care of DC's programs include the Patient Care Fund, providing end-of-life services to indigent, uninsured and underinsured terminally ill people; and the Volunteer Service Program, wherein 70 specially-trained volunteers serve patients and families through direct patient care, bereavement support and community outreach.
