Mission: H. O. P. E. Is a year-round street outreach program working to ensure thesurvival of the unsheltered homeless in the longmont community. Outreachvolunteers provide the homeless with food, coats, hats, gloves, clothing,sleeping bags and transports to emergency shelters when available. Volunteers educate homeless individuals about presently existing socialservices and help them overcome barriers of access. H. O. P. E. Also providesassistance accessing transitional housing and moving towardself-sufficiency.
Programs: Emergency street outreach to homelessthe outreach program is an after hours service providing meals, water and during the winter, life saving supplies such as sleeping bags, coats and blankets. Approximately 155 volunteers are scheduled every month to participate in this program. Volunteers are also trained to provide clients with community resources, so clients can access appropriate services.
evening drop-in centerthe evening drop-in center (edic) is an after hours program, operating tuesday and thursday evenings from 6-9 pm. The edic provides people access to showers, laundry and computers. Staff are knowledgeable about accessing community resources including government beneftis. The edic provided service to 130 unduplicated clients.
public awarenesshope provides education and awareness to the community. Throughout the year we are asked to speak with faith communities, community groups and private organizations about our mission,services, and we provide education regarding issues effecting the homeless.
I have volunteered here for 2 years. H.O.P.E. reaches out to homeless people and gives them concrete things like food, transportation, water, sleeping bags. The agency also tries to help people find housing, fill out paperwork for Veterans's benefits and food stamps etc. HOPE also tries to work with other agencies to get housing so people can move off the street. I've volunteered with lots of organizations and this one is down to earth and can really change lives. A very small organization, and the staff all PT do a great job.
