When our kids were between the ages of five and fifteen, we owned a home and everything was going along just fine, until I was injured and couldn't retain my line of work. I could no longer provide for my family.
I took a management position at a local McDonald’s but couldn’t make enough money to pay our bills and before we knew it we were losing everything...our home, car, and every sense of stability. We relied on family and friends for periods of time, but it was hard raising four kids in someone else’s house. Life felt super overwhelming.
Luckily, the St. Vrain Valley School District connected us to The Inn Between of Longmont and we moved into an affordable three-bedroom apartment. They helped us access classes to learn better money management and work to repair our credit.
Our family spent two years and three months living at The Inn until we could pay off a lot of our debt and significantly repair our credit. My wife's score increased by 200 points within a year and a half! We used The Inn’s Matched Savings fund to accumulate enough money to have a rental deposit to move into a apartment in the community.
A while after we moved out, I got a job as a maintenance technician and my wife for the school district. Three of the kids have graduated from high school and are working and attending community college. The “baby”, a freshman at Skyline High School, is a stellar softball player and will go to a college on an athletic scholarship!
The Inn Between helped us rebuild our financial well being. We’ve come a long way. It's been a hard road, but we were able to get back on our feet. The affordability of The Inn Between was definitely a big factor and their financial classes helped a lot. I can still go to them for guidance that helps us keep moving ahead. In a few months, we will be ready to buy a home again!”
This place lets almost anyone in! Made me feel very unsafe living there to have druggies, alcoholics and even child molesters living right next to you! People were always playing loud music, kids crying, staff talking loud early in the morning. Your freedom is restricted in that you can't have any type of pet, you can't have guns (I snuck both of these things in anyway. Suckers), you can't put anything on the outside of your apartment door, some people have to share bathrooms and kitchens and laundry rooms with complete strangers. Barely anyone who lived there had a future or goals, some were rebellious teens, others wouldn't stop having kids. Staff is constantly asking you to give them more money and to work more for more money and are pretty rude. They done a poor job screening people. This is homeless housing and base rent off your income but once you start getting an income they want you to keep increasing the rent money. Car vandalism in the parking lot. Residents talking to themselves or walking down the hall naked. It's a zoo there. But it's better then nothing.
