Mission: Honor Flight of Southern Colorado is part of the Honor Flight Network, a national organization with a mission of honoring our nations’ veterans by bringing them to Washington DC to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. Honor Flight of Southern Colorado takes veterans from the World War II, Korea and Vietnam eras on a three day, all-expense paid trip to our nation’s capital.
Results: Formed in 2011, HFSOCO has conducted 19 Flights to date (Nov '24). We had a two-year flight moratorium due to COVID-19 but started flying again in April 2022. Our current pace is two trips of 30 veterans per year. With a growing wait list we would like to expand that number to 60 veterans per trip. Raising funds is our greatest challenge. We are a 100% volunteer organization, which operates on 100% donations, and is 100% free to veterans who qualify for an Honor flight.
Target demographics: Donate or volunteer. We are a 100% volunteer orgnaization that operates soley on donatiiones and provides an all expense paid trip to WWII, Korea and Vietnam era veterans.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 55 Veterans with an Honor Flight, and continue our sense of community and family with a holiday party and summer picnic for all veterans who have been on an Honor Flight.
Geographic areas served: Southern Colorado, which includes the area between the El Paso/ Douglas County line South to the state border, East to the Kansas Border and the Western Slope.
Programs: Honor Flight of Southern Colorado (HFSOCO) takes veterans from the World War II, Korea and Vietnam era on a three-day trip to our nation’s capital to see the memorials built in their honor. A Flight is much more than a sightseeing trip to our nation’s capital. Traveling with others who have had similar experiences, the veterans find cohesion and family. The flight provides veterans an opportunity to remember and honor those who did not make it home and for some finally feel appreciated for their service to our country. We have had many veterans tell us their Honor Flight experience was life changing.
