Forty-five girls, young mothers and children received room and board in our residential dormitories and kitchen and dining hall; attended day training school which includes financial independence courses with labs for computer learning; received trauma informed counseling, transportation, legal help, medical care, and early childhood school for their children. An additional 180 young women were educated and equipped in sewing, cooking, baking, vegetable gardening, orchard keeping, and livestock care. Homes of hope also reached out to 30 different communities and 50+ preschools in 2017 to build safety nets, by educating community leaders and families to protect girls from sexual abuse, sexual violence, and to identify and care for survivors. Fifty preschools and over 30 communities were directly impacted in 2017. Hoh staff taught a variety of up to ten different training programs, or toolkits, directly to communities and community leaders throughout fiji to empower them to take ownership to combat sexual exploitation. One toolkit, "thumbs up! ", is a preventative curriculum taught to preschool students on counteracting child sexual abuse. Fifty-five schools were given "thumbs up! " materials and 76 teachers were trained to implement the curriculum. With the help of the teachers, this one program directly impacted more than 1,300 students and indirectly affected at least 8,000 family and community members. The other nine hoh toolkits were taught at many venues and times across 19 communities. These sessions were attended by over 13,000 individuals and leaders in the most vulnerable areas in fiji. Each toolkit involves actionable follow-up focused on equipping communities to protect their children. Conservative estimates indicate that 30,000 or more fijians were impacted.
