Mission: The Hispanic League was established in 1992 to foster diversity and raise awareness by serving as a liaison between the non-Hispanic and Hispanic Communities. Our mission is: IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR HISPANICS/ LATINOS BY FACILITATING THEIR INCLUSION, EDUCATION AND HEALTH WHILE PROMOTING MULTICULTURAL UNDERSTANDING, DIGNITY AND RESPECT.
Results: Since its inception in 2000, the Hispanic League Scholarship Program has awarded 250 scholarships worth over $490,000 to outstanding Hispanic/Latino students who are current or former Forsyth County ESL students. The generous sponsors that make this program possible come from various walks of life, ranging from large corporations to small businesses and charitable individuals in the community – all committed to furthering educational opportunities for our students.
Target demographics: Improve the quality of life for Hispanics/Latinos by facilitating their inclusion, education and health while promoting cultural understanding, dignity and respect.
Direct beneficiaries per year: over 800 middle school students and provided 36 scholarships for students to attend college, and over 23,000 attendees had a multicultural experience at Fiesta 2014
Geographic areas served: Winston Salem and the Piedmont Triad
Programs: English as Secondary Language (ESL) Middle School Achievers Program in 7 local middle schools; Hispanic League Scholarships to qualified Hispanic students to attend college; since 1992 sponsor the annual Fiesta in September offering community wide multicultural experience with food, music, dancing, children's area, 3 stages of entertainment plus more and support of many other community programs.
