Mission: To enhance and protect the historical nature of the mansion and grounds and promote public interest in the preservation of the historical structure.
Programs: In accordance with the mission to enhance and protect the historical site, the highlands historical society (the society): (1) conducts tours of the mansion and gardens, telling the story of the development of the property and the three intriguing familes who lived at the highlands from 1796 to 1970; (2) provides educational programs customized to suit any particular grade level and theprograms meet state educational standards; (3) serves as a venue for private rentals to raise funds to support the preservation of the highlands. The society is also restoring the 2-acre formal garden, known as the sinkler garden, to its appearance c. 1925-1935.
