Mission: Heroes, Great and Small, Inc. was founded in 1990 as a high-energy, volunteer driven group which serves sexually abused youth, their siblings and non-offending parents/caretakers through participation in support group activities. These activities are designed to empower survivors and build self-esteem in a supportive group environment that fosters trust, open communication, and effective coping skills and healthy relationships. The group has been in operation in the Floyd County, GA area since 1990. Group has been replicated in other areas of Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. Training is available to organizations/communities desiring to replicate group.
We are in the process of expanding our scope of services to include children in crisis. A blog and new web site are in development, and more information will be available later in 2008.
We are a local grassroots program dedicated to providing support and education to child victims of sexual abuse. We are now 25 years old, and have served hundreds of victims over the years. There is n-e-v-e-r a charge for services ... And somehow we have stayed afloat for all these years. We are an integral part of a child's' healing from the trauma of sexual abuse. Siblings of victims are encouraged to also attend - I have witnessed children become stronger, more confident, less fearful and ashamed of the abuse, and truly move from being a victim to becoming a survivor. HEROES from the program years ago now come back and participate in volunteering to assist children now journey down the path of healing.
