Mission: As a not for profit state-wide historic preservation educational organization, the organization provides training and assistance to regional and local institutions, organizations and individuals who are working to preserve heritage and cultural resources in nebraska. The organization engages in educational activities including conferences, workshops, publications, a web site and communications.
Programs: The nebraska main street program provided education and technical assistance in the areas of organizational development and historic preservation to 18 program communities. The organization answered requests for information or technical assistance from 60 nebraska communities. Presentations were made throughout the state at meetings, conferences and workshops. Further outreach to nebraska communities was accomplished through mail, telephone, email, social media and website.
collaboration with the state historic preservation office, the university of nebraska, the state departments of roads and economic development, the nebraska state historical society and the mountains/plains office of the national trust for historic preservation to promote advocacy, education and outreach with respect to historic preservation in nebraska. During the year, heritage nebraska provided technical assistance to eleven towns, counties or regions to: secure grant funding for historic properties, organize meetings to encourage collaboration in preservation activities, provide support for preservation activities and promote historic points of interest. Heritage nebraska circulated a list of "hidden treasures/fading places" to call attention to the need for historic preservation, it also participated in a statewide historic preservation conference organized by the nebraska historic preservation office in june and wrote articles, and made presentations in support of historic preservation throughout nebraska.
