Mission: The organization's exempt purpose is to build and upgrade the healthcare workforce in the community by promoting health careers in nursing, occupational and physical therapy and associated occupations, by assisting in job creation and placement, and by culturally orienting healthcare professionals and upgrading professional skills through partnerships with community colleges and universities; by providing clinical settings for graduate, undergraduate and vocational training; to own and operate a community day care center with capacity to provide training opportunities for child care providers and to build capacity to provide therapies to disabled and developmentally-challenged children.
Programs: Professional development program one of the primary missions of hci is to provide educational and employment opportunities in the healthcare field. This is accomplished through an active professional development program. The hiring of subacute care specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians and others to provide professional development opportunities is a high priority. During 2014, the executive director and program development specialist expanded their recruitment efforts drawing from professional recruitment companies, referrals from current employees, and online job postings. Successful recruitment in 2014 was also aided by recruitment trips outside the united states.
learning center program as a way of providing services to the underserved community, hci operates and manages a learning center. The center has been in operation since 2008 and is managed by the director of child care, with the executive director of hci providing overall direction and support. In order to address unmet needs in the community a variety of program enhancements were implemented during 2014. The heritage learning center now maintains a state approved program curriculum, accepts children under the medicaid vouchers program, and provides bi-lingual teaching and care. The center has started its accreditation process with the maryland department of education; the goal is to be accredited by july 2015. Because of its affiliation with nms healthcare of hyattsville, it is able to provide onsite physical, speech and occupational therapy for those children who have physical disabilities. During 2014, after a facility renovation, the center was licensed to provide learning services to 50 children, three more than during the previous year. During 2014 the learning center had an occupancy rate of 100%.
community clinic heritage care, inc community clinic is established to provide quality primary health care to economically challenged population of the local community, particularly those who are jobless and with no health insurance coverage.
educational and research program as part of the educational mission of heritage care, inc. Hci provides english second language classes to its employees and to community local residents. During 2014 hci also provided computer classes, gna classes, and health care free seminars to the under-served community. Hci also has established a research partnership with a local university, directed toward parents of children with disabilities and engages with historically under-reached and under-served communities.
