Mission: Deeper missions is a tax exempt purpose is dedicated to changing and saving lives through meaningful mission travel to implement sustainability projects, such as clean energy, safe water and sanitation. Its mission is to supply materials and provide on-the-ground services which improve the education and livelihood of the people of africa. Deeper missions is currently focused on environmentally-friendly projects such as self-contained solar lighting (so children can study without using the typical and unhealthy open-flame lamps) and community-friendly fresh water well-digging, solar composting toilets and other sanitation projects
Programs: Sanitation program - deeper missions provides an environmentally safe, waterless, passive solar, composting latrines ("eloo") to communities and institutions in order to help break the cycle of sickness due to open defecation, poor sanitation infrastructure, contaminated ground water and insect-borne disease. This year we initiated a new project at a rural church in the northern province of sierra leone which, for the first time since the end of the civil war in 2001, provides a usable latrine for the congregation and local community.
hope for kakua (h4k) - this program supports the only government-certified school for the deaf in sierra leone, outside the freetown area. Located in the peri-urban area on the southwest edge of bo, sierra leone's second largest city, the ebert kakua school for the deaf provides academic and vocational training for a marginalized segment of the population. For the 115 registered students, h4k helps support the school through a sponsor-a-student program and, in 2014, deeper missions provided regular funding for school expenses and additional support and sanitization suppliex to deaf students and their families due to the ebola outbreak.
energy program - this year we delivered a solar-powered pumping system for a water well providing clean water for the first time to a settlement of amputee survivors from the sierra leone civil war and their families. The community was built by norwegian ngos with hand-dug ground water wells providing limited clean water which was hand-pumped. Deeper missions provided a solar-powered pumping system to a new borehole well, provided by deeper missions, so that the community would have access to clean water 24/7.
water program - a bore-hole well was drilled for a community of 350, comprised of amputee survivors from sierra leone's civil war and their families, located outside bo, sierra leone's second largest city. Due to health risks from water contamination in hand-dug ground water wells, this drilled well and its accompanying solar-powered pumping and 10,000 liter storage tank provides clean water to the community, 24/7.
