Programs: Malawi vital signs project $16,000:the objective of the project is to task-shift the triage component of emergency triage assessment and treatment (etat), a validated world health organization (who) resuscitation protocol, to volunteer nurse-assistants trained in etat methodology will increase the utilization of the full etat protocol by clinicians and nurses after hospital admission for urgently ill children. In 2012, the success of the program continued from 2011 in transitioning from the use of nurses to vital sign assistants. The success of this transition led to an increase in the overall health of the pediatric population as evidenced by the reduction in childhood mortality and an increase in healthy releases from kamuzu central hospital. The hospital has now incorporated funding for a vital signs program into their long-term budget. Health empowering humanity, inc. ("heh") provided funds totaling $16,000 for completion of the project begun in 2010 including the provision of funds for a program coordinator and nursing assistant. This project has benefitted hundreds of children and remains active at december 31, 2012.
kenya aids projectthe objective of the project is the diagnosis and progress tracking of hiv in early infants. Project began on june 1, 2012. Health empowering humanity inc. ("heh") provided funds totaling $32,400 in 2012. The tracking system has been placed in service and it has already started to provide remarkably useful data for doctors. The goal is to seek long term funding for this project so it becomes sustainable in the hands of the kenyans who have been doing day-to-day work in the maternity and children's hospitals. This project has benefitted many infants and remains active at december 31, 2012.
rapha medical clinic granthealth empowering humanity inc. Purchased and donated a portable sonogram machine for $15,620 to rapha medical clinic in mbarara, uganda. The sonogram machine is to be used by dr. Theron hutton who is helping with pre natal screening in uganda, east africa since 2008. Dr. Theron hutton has helped the people of mbarara through various projects administered by first colony church of christ. The sonogram machine has helped many mothers and infants in the church-led programs of clinical care.
