Vort Port International (VPI) enables low-income communities globally to gain access to basic necessities through education, training, and innovation of sustainable technology-based solutions. All of the VPI members are truly dedicated, passionate and committed to helping people all over the world to gain access to economic opportunities, afford clean energy, and live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle. They are currently implementing various projects from Banda Bikes in Uganda to Solar Powered Computer Labs in India and Biodigesters in Madagascar. Being involved in Public Affairs for Vort Port last year I saw firsthand the positive impact that all of the projects have on people all over the world. I feel that Vort Port International is a truly innovative, unique and organized non profit and I would like to see them grow larger in size so that they are able to make an even bigger impact on society than they already are. I am happy to have worked with VPI and I hope that they continue their wonderful work.

Vort Port International (VPI) is an entrepreneurial and innovative organization run by youthful, enthusiastic volunteers who are dedicated to serving areas of great need through creating sustainable technology solutions. Founded in 2010, with its roots in Michigan, VPI has grown into a staff of nearly 40 volunteers situated across the nation with projects currently taking place in Madagascar, India and Uganda. Their business model combines successful practices of both traditional nonprofit organizations and incubators, resulting in projects that are effective and independently sustainable. There is an exceptional future ahead of this organization, so stay tuned!

Vort Port is a wonderful organization run by a group of enthusiastic, young but highly experienced individuals. I believe it is a testament to the leadership and quality of the projects to attract such great talent, all of whom work on a volunteer basis. The future of the organization is bright with substantial projects, strong product development and a large network of people and organizations that will make for the successful implementation of projects and the ability to achieve scale.

I didn't know what role to choose above. I used to be the Public Affairs Director of Vort Port International. This is not to say that I'm no longer involved with them. Vort Port is more than just another 501c3. It's a family. It's a home away from home for anyone interested in innovative technologies or solutions for the BOP markets. The inspiring individuals that have banned together to volunteer their time for these incredibly innovative projects go above and beyond each time. Even though I no longer work with Vort Port, I still talk to the Executive Director that I directly worked with every time I have a new connection or idea relevant to VPI. Additionally, I was involved with the solar lamp project in India. The Business Director/Solar Lamp Team Lead is currently in China at a conference trying to identify potential collaborative opportunities. I just ended my FaceTime chat with her actually. She told me she used her own funds to finance her trip for this project. She is not the only one in the organization that has done things like this. The Bamboo Bikes project Team Lead went to Uganda for several months prior to recently going to do a final feasibility assessment for the project she is passionate about. These are not wealthy individuals that have endless amounts of money to spare. We all have student loans or mortgages we're working on paying off. These are individuals that believe in the power of collaboration to bring about the change this crazy world covets. This is an entirely volunteer based operation. These are engineers, scientists, IT specialists, mathematicians, public health experts, economists, etc. who all have full-time jobs, but they use their free-time constructively to accomplish many of the wonderful things you see on their website. This is an all-star team that deserves to be funded. Their minds and more importantly hearts are in the right place. Even though I'm no long an active board member, I truly feel bounded to them by our collective vision and mission for development.

Donating to Vort Port was not like other charities I've donated to before. They do a great job simply communicating the value they deliver to the communities they serve without wasting precious funds on extended overhead structure, marketing, etc. You KNOW that your dollars have impact when you partner with Vort Port.

Having volunteered for Vort Port for almost two years, I had the opportunity to watch the organization grow and mature. It's still a young organization, but is doing some good work and its impact is likely to expand in the coming years.
