Programs: Overview. Harlem academy is a private school for gifted children from underserved communities. We serve grades one through eight with a focus on rigorous intellectual engagement, character development, and family partnership. We guide our students to thrive at the highest academic levels, so they can catch up with higher income peers, succeed at top secondary schools, and one day make a mark on the world. Commitment to low-income children. Harlem academy provides more than $3 million in scholarship support each year. We are committed to a meritocracy where hard work drives the opportunity to realize potential, and where no qualified family is turned away for an inability to pay. Harlem academys tuition is set on a sliding scale based on income, and every family contributes. Transformational growth. Providing a model education. Harlem academy shares successful strategies for supporting this important but neglected population of promising, low-income students. Last year, we presented at two conferences: diversity education and justice in the curriculum and nysais teaching with technology conference.
