Mission: Happy tails volunteers share the unconditional love of their pets with people of all ages with physical, social, emotional and cognitive needs at healthcare facilities, social agencies and special needs programs throughout the metro atlanta community.
Programs: We now have approximately 300 members with animal volunteers that include dogs, cats and rabbits. In 2017 we estimate we facilitated over 110,000 therapy interactions with people in over 85 facilities in the atlanta metropolitan area. Our clients include: children's hospitals, regular hospitals, behavioral health facilities, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, assisted living centers, schools and shelters. In addition, volunteers made over 50 special visits in addition to our regularly scheduled monthly visits. We also participate each year in the children's healthcare of atlanta christmas parade, atlanta st. Patrick's parade and other community events. We charge no fees for our visits. Happy tails is operated by a volunteer board, counseled by a veterinary advisory board and supported by an advisory board of local professionals, including attorneys and cpas. Happy tails continues to expand the services its volunteers provide, both in number of visiting teams and the types of facilities visited. For example, we have recently teamed with a number of local universities, at their request, to help address mental health issues on campus.
