Mission: To create flexibly-scheduled, meaningful, direct service volunteer opportunities for volunteers in search of a user friendly approach to community service.
Programs: Hands on miami transforms communities by engaging people in volunteerismand strengthening non-profits within miami-dade county through its varied programming. Hands on miami offers over 60 volunteer service opportunities each month engaging over 17,000 active volunteers generating 46,000+ hours of service to the community annually. Each hands on miami project is managed by one of our 220 trained volunteer leaders who have been background checked by the florida department of law enforcement and the fbi. Hands on miami's programming is developed to engage each demographic of volunteer within miami-dade county. Programs focus on engaging youth, adults, corporate volunteers, families, community groups and faith-based organizations. Opportunities engage volunteers in a wide variety of direct service activity including community revitalization, mentorship, childhood literacy programs, providing companionship for senior citizens, serving meals to the homeless and hungry, restoring and preserving the environment and caring for animals. Special interest opportunities in disaster preparedness/response are also available. In fy 2014, 164 community members received 333 hours of specialized training in this field. Annual days of service which include hands on miami day, global youth service day, and mlk day engaged over 2,800 volunteers providing 11,708 hours of service. In the role of volunteer center, hands on miami connected over 2,200 volunteers in 166 referral projects with partnering non-profits.
