Mission: The mission of the corporation shall be the collection, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of the gunflint trail and its early settlers for residents, guests, travelers, and future generations.
Programs: Operating the former chik-wauk lodge as a museum and nature center which opened july 4, 2010. The property is located at the end of the gunflint trail and is owned by the united states forest service. An agreement was reached between the society and the forest service on june 30, 2006 to allow the society to lease and develop the site. The site was listed on the national register of historical places as of june 27, 2007.
