In a world characterized by large non-profits and big brands, it is often the smaller, agile, deeply committed non-profits that provide the highest levels of service and inspiration for the funding support they receive. Such is the story of Green Map which has not only survived many challenges but has continued to evolve, taking whatever steps were needed to honor the many promises Green Map has made and continues to make. With its active board, sound leadership and global connections to Green mapmakers and other environmental actors, Green Map continues to perform its "loaves and fishes" service to the world, giving local communities the tools they need to chart and practice environmental sustainability while offering rays of hope in these difficult times for our climate, biodiversity, forests, oceans and other ecosystems. All who serve Green Map remain committed to the organization, its many partners, and the contributions Green Map makes to a healthier more sustainable world.

My involvement with Green Map has been longstanding and almost universally satisfying. Being involved with tools and networks that help people make connections within their communities, not only to challenges but to resources and opportunities for change, has been a huge personal and professional benefit. Especially since most of my work is policy oriented and deals with 'big' security issues, being able to maintain the connection to communities and their sustainability leaders has kept me (and others) grounded and energized.

Green Map operates on a shoestring, but if there is a lesson to be learned in our time it is that there is only a modest relationship between the size of your budget and the size of your impact. The creative and entrepreneurial spirit of people still makes the difference and Green Map has been able to tap such spirit in abundance.

Green Map System has been leading the way with local mapping of global environmental resources for nearly 25 years. The amazing leadership of Wendy Brawer has brought together a worldwide community of mapmakers in 65 countries, producing powerful maps and projects using its award-winning icons, tools and mapping platform. After getting to know the organization, I became a board member and appreciated the richness and depth of its educational platform even more. I highly recommend Green Map!

Green Maps manages to be global and local at the same. Using grassroots efforts, Green Maps allows any community to better understand its sustainability capacity. We in Pierre, SD made an open green map to showcase those assets that make our community green so now we join cities such as New York and Chicago. Creating a map is simple, no GIS experience is necessary. The icons are clean and descriptive. Great support documents and a positive "vibe" from their social media. Very responsive to inquiries.

We have worked with Green Map since 1998. I am also on their Advisory. They have been core to the development of our own Community Mapping work, our UVIC Community Mapping Collaboratory and the Common Ground Mapping network - Info: mapping.uvic.ca . They have attended many of our conferences, we have co-produced publications with them and they have supported the process and production of over 15 community green map projects and maps in our own region here in Victoria British Columbia. Many sectors have benefited from their expertise and global vision.

I wasn't sure what to expect when my hometown, Montclair, NJ, was selected to become a recipient of a Sustainable Jersey grant enabling us to acquire an Open Green Map. Thanks to our volunteers, and Wendy Brawer's guidance and technical assistance, our results are much greater than I could have even hoped. We have identified over 100 sustainability assets and attributes in our community - from electric charging stations to our Farmers' Market, and from historical places and our Recycling Zones to the Montclair Art Museum - and the OGM is now available to all residents and will soon also be available on our Township Website. We've had input from people I wouldn't have thought even cared, and we are excited about opportunities to be able to work with school kids as well. Wendy even came to our town for a day-long presentation and Map demonstration! The Green Map organization is a well-organized, successful, and generous group and we are proud to be a part of the international Green Map movement.

Green Map System's Youth Mapmaking initiative is a wonderful approach for anyone to comfortably participate from society to connect, collaborate and learn while charting out environmentally friendly actions and sustainable directions. The organization's uniquely designed environmental iconography is not only a visual treat to the eye but is even simple to interpret, too.

My experience with the Green Map, although short, has been very productive. It values your ideas and makes them their first priority since creativity is like their second name. They made me give feedback on their youth modules, six of them, which I found out were extremely beneficial and I was glad to give my part into it.

Green Map holds an important place in the field of non-profits. For such a small organization, they continue to make huge strides in bridging global, sustainable communities. I'm continually impressed by the way Green Map uses the power of the people to officiate change. As an intern with Green Map, I've watched Wendy Brawer and my fellow employees work tirelessly to improve their software and expand Green Map's audience.

The Green Map System is an unusually strong nonprofit in a crowded field. Wendy Brawer and Carlos Martinez made multiple site visits and gave presentations to help us launch our effort, pro bono! Wendy personifies open-source, informed and engaged leadership with her gentle demeanor and dogged commitment. The brand and vision are utterly consistent, and the quality of empowerment that Green Mapping brings to communities is high. We have been able to engage a regional leadership fellows program in completing our Green Map thanks to the care and quality of the platform created by Green Map Central.

Green Map is a fantastic, dynamic organization. They have developed a methodology used by local communities to map their own green resources, using a shared set of universal icons. Their web-based Open Green Map should be THE platform for sharing information with each other about sites that promote sustainable living.
