It was about 4 years ago now that I met Karon Wright at an informal dinner party to raise awareness of the Group's endeavors. It was actually one of the parents at our preschool that hosted the event. Truth be told, I went to support her, more than the event itself for I had no idea of what micro loans were. Well I must tell you that I stepped into a new wonderful world, a new way to help, a way that would NEVER let my donation die! I mean think about it, it is a LOAN ! How exciting was this? My donation would keep on going, and going -- loaned out, payed back, and loaned again! A never ending cycle! I WAS AMAZED!! And get this its a small loan, a manageable loan, it's payback is in 6 months! OK it even gets better -- The Greater Contribution doesn't just loan the money, but also makes a personal investment in the women by providing training as well. Training in keeping records, training in planning, training in basic business techniques! So here in a place 1/2 way around the world where families struggle just to feed themselves, and to find clean water, I could make a difference! A small donation changes an entire families life! Imagine that...... and the best part, it gets loaned out again to make another impact. Beginning that night 4 short years ago I became a committed donor, I give on a quarterly basis, year after year.
I recently visited Uganda with Karon Wright to see for myself the impact these loans are providing. And I can tell you from my own experience, that YES this organization is making a big impact one loan at a time.
