Mission: We work to free the wrongfully convicted and prevent future wrongful convictions from occurring. We also educate attorneys and criminal justice systems to prevent wrongful convictions and other unjust results in criminal cases.
Programs: The goals of the innocence project of minnesota are to free innocent men and women convicted of crimes they did not commit, strenghten our criminal justice systems so that wrongful convictions do not occur and provide education concerning the causes of wrongful convictions. In 2017, we received 352 requests for our services. As a result we sent out 74 questionnaires to potential applicants and received 72 questionnaire responses. We actively screened or investigated a total of 66 cases. In addition to screening and investigation,in 2017 we continued to actively litigate four cases. We also expanded our services to accept cases from north and south dakota, thereby taking in a greater number of cases. We educated over 90 students through classes and clinics taught at universities,provided continuing education to hundreds of attorneys and educated hundreds of citizens through various public speaking engagements and events.
