Mission: Great Adventure 2000:Space-Age Literacy Unlimited was founded in 1994 to take advantage of the window of opportunity opened by space-age technology far wider than ever before to solve our intractable English literacy crisis. Interim and definitive solutions are presented. A beginning reader, The Training Wheels Alphabet Book, in which only regularly spelled words are used, gets learners off to a speedy, confidence-building start. Follow-up readers, in the pattern of The Look, Mom, No Hands Alphabet Book, employ a totally phonemic initial teaching alphabet in an equally effective, accelerated way. To demonstrate the value of this approach, complimentary copies are being sent to first-grade teachers and other specialists in literacy on request. These and additional literacy materials are offered over the Internet.
