Mission: The mission of goodwill of the finger lakes is to prepare and empower people with barriers to independence to be self-sufficient and contribute to their families and communities.
Programs: Retail:within our territory goodwill donated goods and food service operations accepts referrals from the county(s) department of social services for their clients who receive public assistance and from the courts for individuals who must perform community service in lieu of incarceration as well as community agencies seeking work experience opportunities for the persons they serve. The goodwill enterprise supported 850 individuals for over 40,000 hours of work experience/community service activities. The above revenue does not include contributions of inventory included on line 1g of form 990, part viii in the amount of $9,038,910. As well as hosting 0ver 800 individuals throughout our donated goods and food services programs in service to our mission, goodwill does so much to help change lives of people in our community through our good neighbor program. Through the good neighbor program goodwill helped over 20,000 people in need, working with area schools and local not-for-profits to identify children and adults who are in desperate need of clothing or household items. Goodwill of the finger lakes is the ultimate recycling program with 25 million pounds of useful items diverted from local landfills.
2-1-1/lifeline and contact center:the 2-1-1/life line program provides access to trained counselors who provide information and referral to health and human service agencies and programs throughout a 39-county region. Counselors respond to calls and emails and conduct web chats through its 24/7 crisis, suicide and information hotline. In 2016, 211/life line handled nearly 150,000 contacts from individuals seeking support related to many complex presenting issues, including mental health concerns and suicide (60,186) and requests for assistance with basic needs (36,526), among others. As a blended information and referral and crisis hotline, we are on the front lines in making efforts to connect callers not only to the service that they are seeking, but also those that may be linked to their presenting challenge. 211/life line telecounselors are highly skilled at completing needs assessments that span basic needs issues such as food, housing, and transportation and assess for the presence of more complex needs related to unemployment, mental health/physical health needs, and education, among others.
food services:goodwill's food services/hospitality division cooked and delivered over 310,000 meals to seniors, through the county senior nutrition program and to child day care programs providing subsidized meals for qualified individuals that meet the federal nutrition guidelines. As well as operating an in-house cafeteria that offers hot and cold meals to agency employees, many of whom are blind and unable to get out to local restaurants for breakfast or lunch.
