Mission: The Girl Scout organization was founded in 1912 to meet a very real need--to give girls a place of their own, a place where in the company of other girls they could have adventures, discover new things and explore their strengths. From the very beginning, the Girl Scout program focused steadfastly on the most current needs of girls and readily adapted to meet those needs throughout the years. Glowing Embers, established in 1918, is the oldest Girl Scout Council in the state of Michigan, and serves girls in Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and parts of Van Buren counties. Our mission is to enhance the development of girls by inspiring them to reach their full potential through values-driven experiences which promote self-reliance, integrity and emotional well-being.
