Mission: Global cleveland is a regional economic development agency focused on attracting, welcoming, and connecting international newcomers to social and economic opportunities throughout greater cleveland.
Programs: In 2016, global cleveland significantly grew its efforts and impact towards building a more inclusive community, that embrace immigrants and fosters opportuntiy for all. Among the organization's accomplishments:using a place based approach, global cleveland worked with partners to create a climate and environment where more individuals - including immigrants and refugees were able to participate more fully in social, civic, and economic life, contributing to a more prosperous and vibrant community for all. This included establishing new programs that helped to build bridges between new and long-time residents; expand economic opportunity; increase equitable access to services; and enable more new americans to participate in civic life. To provide a roadmap for hiring international talent, global cleveland expanded its global employer program and efforts to serve as the standard for companies looking to hire international talent. This program details policies, processes, and partnerships that are core to expanding hire opportunties for immigrant, refugees and international students. Such efforts also helped to create benefits for the broader community. For example, research published by the fiscal policy institute in partnership with the welcoming economies global network demonstrates the potential of welcoming immigrants and refugees to neighborhood revitalization. This report was centered on cleveland's international village, a project that global cleveland expanded its efforts in, in 2016. The report and interactive tool show that immigrants have strong rates of potential homeownership in 23 target cities, and suggest that efforts that encourage homeownership or vacant property purchase could yield significant returns. The research was highlighted by cnn money and the atlantic's renewal project. To serve out its mission, global cleveland worked to build a network of more than 200 hr executives, committed to learning about hiring international talent. Additionally, global cleveland welcomed more than 2,500 new americans at oath swearing in ceremonies, and hosted more than 3,000 international students for job preparedness events throughout the year. A lead partner in the refugee services collaborative of cleveland, global cleveland worked with more than 20 community organizations to help welcome the 1,000 refugees resettled in greater cleveland.
