Results: Since the establishment of our foundation on August 16, 2008, the Giving Garden is honored to share that we have helped dozens of local patients and their families who are struggling financially by providing more than $40,000 in assistance to cover rents, utilities, groceries, fuel, medical expenses and more.
Through our "Together we CAN advocate" recycling program, more than $10,000 has been raised to help support our mission and we have prevented more than half a million cans from ending up in the landfill!
We should also mention that we are 100% Volunteer run! Even our board does not receive compensation for our time and we operate out of our home offices to ensure that our overhead expenses are kept to a minimum.
Target demographics: struggling cancer patients residing in these two rural communities
Direct beneficiaries per year: several struggling patients in Gloucester and Mathews by provided more than $20,000 in assistance. As one can imagine, a cancer diagnosis is not only emotionally exhausting it can be financially debilitating. By the time patients reach out to us for assistance, they are often facing eviction, foreclosure or disconnection of power. No one should have to face these fears while facing a battle for their life

Programs: financial assistance for rents, mortgages, prescriptions, utilities, fuel, groceries and travel. The Giving Garden has also built an online database of potential assistance resources on local, state and national levels and we implemented a recycling program, "Together we CAN advocate" which accepts aluminum beverage can donations from individuals and businesses and uses the proceeds to help support our mission of local advocacy.
