Review Report of Girls Education Mission international Impact By Yusuf Gani. 1.About Girls Education Mission international: Girls Education Mission international(GEM) is an 8th rated non profit organization registered with Corporate Affairs Commission and with Special Control Unit Against Money Laundry of the EFCC. GEM is an internationally trusted NGO with special consultative status United Nations(UN) Economic and Social Council, status that reflects it's strong interest in contributing to the work of UN and Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). GEM Head office is opposite D.B Zang Junction Gyel, Bukuru Express Way Jos Plateau State. Website is www.girlseducationmission.org. 2. Achievements: (a).In 2011, after GEM was incorporated as an entity to work towards providing girls in Nigeria access to quality education through design and delivery of integrated projects, GEM broke new grounds by becoming one of the implementing project partners of the maiden edition of the Young African Women Leaders Small Grant program-an initiative of Michelle Obama-and trained 36 young women in Kaduna State in various vocational skills and entrepreneurship, awarding start-up grants to each of the beneficiaries. (b). In the same year (2011), GEM offered 6 years secondary school scholarship to 10 girls. (c). By 2022, GEM has supported the education of over 250 girls, has reached over 25,000 young women and girls, has trained over 300 teachers, has reached over 500 schools, and has made over 10 years impact globally through it's programs and projects. (d). In 2019, GEM partnered with the women wing of Irigwe Development Association and provided subsidies for NECO examinations fees for 100 girls in Miango Land and environs in Bassa Local Government Council of Plateau State. GEM also distributed sanitary pads to the girls, as shown The project tagged Girls education Now or Never was supported by TY Danjuma Foundation. (e). In 2023, GEM trained 6 coordinators who later step down the training to over 100 school supervisors in a project tagged Quality Education for Lifelong Learning funded by TY Danjuma Foundation in Northern Plateau. (f). In 2024, GEM continued in it's project tagged Quality Education for Lifelong Learning and trained 30 teachers across 20 local governments of Bauchi State. (g). In 2024, GEM implemented a project on digital training tagged Every Girl 2.0 and trained 16 girls on digital skills acquisition across Jos north and Jos local governments of Plateau State. (h). In 2024, GEM embarked on a mentorship project tagged #I Am Possible, an initiative of Girls Opportunity Alliance, and trained over 50 Junior Secondary School girls across 6 local governments of northern plateau. These are just but few. 3. Ongoing projects: (a).GEM is still on it's project tagged Quality Education for Lifelong Learning, hopefully with Gombe State next. (b). #I Am Possible mentorship training project. 4.Challenges: The major amidst many confronting GEM is (a).poor funding. GEM, as a nonprofit organization, is in need of more financial support from private and public agencies and institutions to be able to actualized it's manded as a nonprofit organization that support girls education and women empowerment. (b). Inadequate governments support. GEM is need of more partnership support from the government to help in implementing it's project. 5.Government involvement: Over the years, GEM has partnered with government bodies especially the Universal Basic Education Board to implement projects in the primary and junior secondary level. 6.Community involvement: GEM also was involve with various community leaders and stakeholders like parents in implementing it's projects. 7.International participations: GEM was (a). part of the 2024 UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi Kenya on May 9th and 10th, to address pressing challenges, strengthen international corporation, and reaffirm commitment to SDGs and UN charter. (b).part of the intergovernmental Negotiation committee (INC-4) on plastic pollution held between 23rd-29th April 2024 at Shaw Center Ottawa, Canada. 8.Recommendation: From the above impact stories, no doubt GEM has made remarkable impact in the world of NGO in promoting girls education and empowering women. Hence, I sincerely recommend GEM to be supported financially and otherwise. 9.Conclusion: GEM has and is still making impact globally through ensuring that girls are safe, while women are empowered hence, deserves to be supported.

I am a beneficiary with this non-profit organization. I enjoyed scholarships and trainings sponsored by the organization. It is because of their selfless effort towards nurturing girls like me that gave me the opportunity to better education and entrepreneurship skills. It was really a previledge to volunteer with Girls Education Mission international. It was an excellent experience I will never forget in a hurry. The campaign tagged #IamPossible against Gender VIOLENCE was really massive. I was able to cover some topics like Drugs Abuse and Cultism that make dreams go unfulfilled. My Experience with GEM
My name is Ayandeji Bunmi Abigail,
I came in contact with Girls Education Mission International in July 2019. I was invited by my sister in law to attend Shine the Light Sisters annual anniversary which was marked with 3days skills acquisition program and talk show. The executive Director of GEM Mrs keturah Shammah was invited to come and share her stories and also inspired women to always believe in themselves. After listening to her stories, I decided to volunteers with GEM with the aim to use my skills and abilities to help women and girls to achieve their goals in life.
Ever since then,my experience and work with GEM has been productive, challenging and educative at every aspect and stages. I have attended series of trainings,events, seminars and also takes different course online in order to enrich my knowledge and also to help me perform my work better.
With my work with GEM, I have witnessed GEM provide mentorship programs for women and girls, paid NECO fee for over 100 secondary school girls in six local government areas in plateau state, distributed sanitary pads, grant scholarships, organised skills acquisition programs, provide sustainability programs among others.
GEM is passionate about women's and girls and they ensure to recognize important days in the lives of these women and girls. Such days include: International Day of the Girls Child, International Day of African Child, International women's Day, World Hygiene Day and so much more.
My work with GEM has been full of wealth of experience of a life time.

I was privilege to be part of the International Day of the girl child hosted by Girls Education Mission International in 2015 where about 15 girls were donated education material in support to their education. It was my first time of seeing such a noble project carried out by noble team. I see accountability and transparency exhibit most especially by the Executive Director of GEM. For this reason I call for every support to elevate the work of this organization.

I first come in contact with Girls Education Mission International in 2014 where I had the privilege of participating in their Girls Education Rally. Since then I became so admired by their activities through their selfless service to humanity to better the lives of humanity particularly the life of the girls and women.

Despite improvements in global, national and local laws and policies that provide the normative framework for women to advance their rights, it is imperative to acknowledge that a vast number of girls continue to experience violence and gender discrimination at home, in schools and in their communities especially when it comes to getting an education. As part of GEM smart and creative strategy to better the lives of humanity, we are committed to eradicating poverty, building peace and creating sustainable impact among young women and girls using education to achieve this aim. Girls Education Mission International believe that girls education and empowerment is the vital tool to harness innovation to improvise novel solution that are not only smart and creative but also more effective, efficient and just in achieving demonstrable results when it comes to tackling the challenges continue to face globally. GEM works directly with girls, parents, teachers, and community leaders, all of whom are the ultimate drivers and stewards of meaningful change for themselves, their families and their communities. Given the high vulnerability level of girls that GEM International supports, Empowerment is a key intervention across all programs. Our activities includes: Education and Empowerment grant, Vocational and Literacy training, Entrepreneurship and Mentoring, Leadership and Capacity building, Advocacy and Livelihood support. Anchoring the Empowerment approach in programming, GEM places the girl at the center of a strategy that activates girls, their households, schools and communities in providing high quality integrated packages of support to vulnerable girls principally through the GEM Impact Clubs (GICs) which are facilitated by the GEM Impact Ambassadors (GIAs).
Till date, GEM has provided quality integrated package of; livelihood to 60 households; Scholarship to 110 girls; sanitary pads distributed to 150 girls; Literacy and Vocational training to 820 women/girls; Entrepreneurship and mentoring to 530 individuals. Currently, GEM supports 6 in-school and 5 out-of-school Girls Clubs that engage 301 girls in Nigeria. These girls reach community members through dance, drama, and discussion in schools and communities, and other programs that showcase stories told by girls and engage communities in dialogue, and occasional stakeholder forums that are jointly facilitated by GEM Impact Ambassadors and Clubs members. Our Girls clubs have improved girls’ understanding of their rights to education and how to report cases of violence, improved relationships between girls and their parents, and strengthened advocacy efforts and protection mechanisms in schools and communities to address violence when it occurs.

Girls Education Mission International (GEM) was emerged out of a pressing need among young women and girls who face gender-based discrimination and are therefore deprived of education and training opportunities to attain a better life. As a non profit, non-governmental organization aim for the betterment of humanity particularly the life of the Girl child, GEM envisions a World where girls become Women of Integrity, Vision and Impact. We want to see girls and women creating change and making lasting impact in their respective communities. I am pleased to write a review of Girls Education Mission International. Having closely monitored the activities of this laudable non-profit NGO over the past five years and assisted in raising support for it, I can confidently vouch for the credibility and integrity of the project director, Mrs Keturah Shammah, with whom I have been conferring about their programs which include grassroots empowerment of less-privileged young girls and women, particularly in the areas of literacy and skills acquisition. She has been able to judiciously manage the financial and material resources entrusted to her for various projects. Prominent among these is the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Skills training held in Saminaka Lere local government capital in 2011. Thirty seven young women and girls were trained in various vocational skills and were awarded take-off grants. With the support of mentors who were assigned to monitor the progress of the trainees' business venture, the participants' income generation was enhanced, leading to a high demand for such trainings and other related programs both within and outside the country Nigeria. However, the project director is not able to respond to all requests and other needs of the organisation as well as the training of volunteer staff, due to unavailability of funds. Any assistance towards the elevation of this credible NGO will go a long way in improving the living standards of the marginalized rural female population in Nigeria, Africa and beyond. I therefore without reservation, highly recommend GEM International for donations and any other useful support.

Like a journey of a hundred miles that begins with a step, so Girls Education Mission International began. Starting with just about 15 girls in Luwuna Village of Kaduna State, Nigeria, today this project has grown to have influenced the lives of hundreds of girls, households and communities through various practical applications.
