Causes: Leadership Development
Mission: Increase civic engagement by the latino community
Programs: To promote civic engagement and leadership development of the latino community in georgia. Our organization was the lead organization which lead the 2010 census outreach efforts for the latino community in our state. Through our work and outreach to both urban and rural communities, the latino population in georgia nearly doubled and accounted 28% of georgia's growth. In addition, the latino electorate has grown from only 10,000 in 2003 to well over 186,000 in 2012 through our ongoing georgia latino vote campaign efforts. In fact, the latino voter particpation in georgia for most counties was higher than the national latino voter participation rate in 2008. Lastly, through our leadership program, galeo has graduated over 400 community leaders throughout the state in both urban and rural areas and has equipped them with basic leadership skills for the community members to be able to accomplish more for themselves in their own communities. The alumni have developed a strong network. During the 2013 tax year, the organization received 9,000 in donated rent. Per the irs regulations, donated services and facilities are excluded from form 990. Accordingly, we have omitted 9,000 in donated rent from this tax return.
