Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Visual Arts
Mission: We are a community-based not-for-profit that educates, encourages and inspires all people to create and enjoy the visual arts. We provide art services and art education to all community members, with a strong emphasis on the under-served youth of the Rochester NY area. Our programs use art to strengthen the community by fostering cross-cultural understanding. We believe that a positive art experience can change a person’s life.
Programs: Community darkroom offers quarterly photography classes, provides classroom and studio facilities usage for center members and area schools, provides exhibition opportunities for artists of all ages, and serves as a meeting place and information center for people interested in photography.
genesee pottery provides special programming to city youth and community organizations. Genesee pottery offers quarterly classes and workshops as well as rental opportunities for the community. Exhibits including juried shows are presented in the genesee pottery firehouse gallery. Artist residencies are offered annually for two artists who are selected from a national pool of applicants.
outreach: the community darkroom provides photo programming to schools and organizations serving inner-city youth. Programs include in-school, after-school and summer enrichment programs.
