Mission: To own and operate a 29 unit supported single room occupancy building providing housing and supportive case management services to formerly homeless mentally ill individuals.
Programs: See schedule ogeel community union avenue hdfc provided stable housing and supportive case management services to 31 formerly homeless mentally ill adults. This was accomplished by creating a safe environment and providing supportive services to foster the resident's ability to live independently. Resident outcomes are based on individual needs and desires and include: financial stability, job readiness and retention, stabilized health and well-being, and increased quality of life. Geel strives to increase the residents' level of independence in a helping and sensitive fashion without sacrificing their individuality and spirit. A significant accomplishment for this project is that it achieved a 99% occupancy rate and that the average length of stay for project residents is almost 10 years. This remains a significant factor given that the majority of the individuals housed in this project have a history of chronic homelessness. Wellness and self-recovery are the focus of the work done with individuals in this project through individual case management services as well as groups. The project conducted groups in the areas of personal safety and recovery, cultural sensitivity, substance abuse recovery including tobacco cessation and socialization. The stability of this project can be best quantified with the number of days residents spent in the community as opposed to more restrictive settings. Almost 100% was spent in the community.
