Programs: See schedule othe gateway middle school program prepares students with language-based learning disabilities and/or attention deficit for success in college preparatory high schools. It ensures they acquire skills and strategies they can apply towards the mastery of more complex academic material, and develop a sound sense of self. Students are supported by a high level of structure, given clear explanations, and are taught according to their individual needs by virtue of diagnostic instruction. Through the execution of effective, research-validated direct instruction, students learn 'how to learn,' experience success, and develop the self-awareness and confidence that inspires them to assume ever-increasing responsibility for their learning. An independent school curriculum weaves together the skills and strategies necessary for learning with the academic content required for successful participation in general classrooms. Gateway students transition to mainstream school settings when it is clear they can do so successfully. The gateway middle school provided educational services to 60 students, and also provided language therapy and counseling to all students.
