Mission: Meals on Wheels - Provide balanced meals to individuals who are unable because of age or infirmity, to obtain or prepare their own
Results: Since our founding in 1976 when a few volunteers took meals to six shut-ins, we have grown to a $1.3 million organization with more than a thousand volunteers serving around 700 people weekdays along more than 80 routes.
Target demographics: persons of all ages, but our current recipients live south of Huntersville, north of the southern leg of I-485, west of the Cabarrus line and east of Paw Creek Road. The demographics of our recipients as of June 2008: 76% making less than $15,000 annually; 62% African American; 76% female; 49% on the program for less than a year; 39% under 65; 30% 66-79; 24% 80-89; 7% 90-plus.
Direct beneficiaries per year: more than 1,000 recipients
