Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, Human Services, International, International Relief

Mission: In 1954, Fr. William Wasson, a parish priest living in the diocese of Cuernavaca, Mexico, suffered a theft from the parish poor box. To his surprise, the thief was a homeless orphan boy. Father responded by obtaining custody of the boy, thus founding the first orphanage of Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (Our Little Brothers & Sisters). Over the years, NPH has provided love, care and security for over 15,000 children. There are currently 3000 children living in our eight homes.

It is imperative that children of the same family join the home together and no child is ever available for adoption. Many of the children living in the NPH homes suffer severe physical problems. The clinics in our homes allow these children to receive proper medical care, thus enabling them to live full, productive lives.

NPH is a Catholic institution open to children and volunteers of all faiths. The homes are staffed by paid employees and volunteers from throughout the world who work in a variety of positions from office workers and nurses to farm and construction workers. All workers are considered to be parents, brothers and sisters of our children.

Fundraising for NPH is conducted by volunteer organizations located in Western Europe, Canada, Mexico and the United States. Funds are raised through individual sponsors, "godparents" of the children and through various charitable events.

Friends of the Orphans - Northwest is a registered 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax-deductible as provided by law.

I was fortunate to meet Senor Fernando Gres Lozano while living in Mexico. He himself is living testimony of the success that NPH has attained with the orphans of Latin America. Fernando was a product of the system and now has dedicated himself to carry on the work of the founders. Fernando is a truly inspiring individuale and because of him I have become a donor on behalf of my family.
