Programs: Feeding children and their families: breaktime-mealtime (btmt) malnutrition has a very serious cost on children's emotional, physical and intellectual development. Btmt makes a real difference in children's lives by helping to ensure that no child suffers from lack of food. The program provides boxes of breakfast, lunch and snack food items during the school breaks for low-income families to help replace food that they would normally receive while in school. For the year ended june 30, 2017, 1,417 children were assisted for winter break, 1,532 children assisted for mid-winter break, 1,634 children assisted for spring break, 1,662 children assisted for summer break for a total of 122,060 meals for 6,245 children through this program. Pantry - we maintain a food and basic needs pantry to personally deliver to families in crisis providing assistance to 75 families. Adopt-a-family - bellevue families in need of holiday support are matched with sponsors from local churches, families and businesses. Sponsors donate food in november or holiday meal vouchers may be provided for use at a local restaurant and provide food assistance and gifts in december for each family member in the household. For the year ended june 30, 2017, 337 families were served for a total of 610 adults and 813 children.
clothing children and their families: clothes-4-kids inadequate clothing can prohibit a child from feeling warm, participating in activities and developing healthy self-esteem. Clothes-4-kids distributes gift cards so students can select new back-to-school clothing, coats and shoes from local merchants. For the year ended june 30, 2017, 512 children ages 4-18 received a total of $69,230 in clothes-4-kids vouchers. Thrift shop the bellevue lifespring thrift shop provides good-quality used clothing and merchandise at affordable prices and free to those who can't afford to pay. Families receive gift cards from bellevue lifespring on an as-needed basis to help provide work and school clothing, as well as emergency needs in times of crisis. It also serves as a training ground for clients allowing them to learn valuable customer service and retail job skills while gaining self-esteem and giving back to the community. In addition, the shop offers a venue for high school students to earn community service hours while gaining valuable skills.
educating youth and adults: educational grants this program is based on need and provides bellevue students access to higher learning in order to schieve financial stability in future endeavors. First, second, third and fourth year grants are available to support students throughout their college years. For the year ended june 30, 2017, twenty-four (24) youths were awarded college scholarships and two (2) adult scholarship (these are available to adults with children at home; formerly pfi) for total of $51,946. Summer school scholarships (grads on track) for the year ended june 30, 2017, bellevue lifespring awarded 344 youths a total of $61,010. Operation exploration this a summer enrichment program through the bellevue school district for grades 1 - 6. Students served through this program are on free & reduced lunch program or have a demonstrated financial hardship. Total scholarships for the year ended june 30, 2017 was $3,080 and served 30 children.
